Ball (Royal) Python is a good choice.

They are very docile and don't grow too large.

They are really popular pets so you can find lots of info and support for them.
>>
Thinking about a kingsnake, what do you guys think?
>>
>>2093942
Yep that'll work. Most colubrids make fine pets. Strong feeding response on kings though, you have to be careful about not giving snek the idea that hand in tank always = food. They get snippy if they form that association.

What breed would /an recommend?

considering that snakes don't have breeds, none

How big of a snake do you want?

>Most colubrids make fine pets.
most colubrids are not kept as pets by anyone.
>>
>>2093985
What would you call the different classes?

>>2093990
Nothing I can't handle, and nothing with a bad temper. Size is only relative to how easily I can handle them in public places.
>>
>>2093998
As with every other non-domestic animal on Earth, they are species and subspecies.

there are colubrids that straight up refuse to eat in die and captivity and plenty that have a temper. There is no reason you should be bringing your snakes out in public, that's poor husbandry bordering on abuse. fuck off.
>>
>>2093990
I meant most of the colubrids available in pet trade.

Don't bring them out in public.

I'll say start looking at corn snakes. Docile temperament, good feeding response, simple care, don't get very big. I don't recommend ball pythons for first-time reptile owner. Too many new BP owners showing up on forums asking questions they should have asked BEFORE buying snake and taking it home.

>most of the X available in the X trade are fine
It is essential to the basic function of capitalism.

Best but little known snake breeds for beginners:

Boiga dendrophila
Xenodermus javanicus (very cool and easy to keep but a bit pricey!)
Sunbeam snake
Vine snake
Rock Python kinda like a ball python lol
Wild caught coachwhips because captive bred are very inbred and will die
Leaf-nosed snake
Sheltopusik
Dermophis mexicanus
Agkistrodon contortri (lightly venomous like hognoses but more intelligent and easy to handle in public)

just becareful when getting one. my friend got two cornsnakes and they pushed themselves out of his tank. the one poor bastard hurt his jaw on the way down =/ he ended up not making it. the other disappeared then a month later his parents found it on their front lawn while decorating their house for xmas. it was literally the only warm day in late November. he got lucky and the little buggers doing great now. my friend now leaves a 5 pound weight on top of his tank. but yeah corn snakes are cool they can literally fit in the palm of your hand
