How much maintenance do they even require? Is it similar to a greyhound, or do they need more care?
>>
>>2089996
They were never domesticated, people kept them for hunting similar to birds of prey, but they never became pets. They are and allways have been wild animals, they wouldn't fit in with a home environment any more then a wolf or bird of prey would.

Ah, the age old 'its a wild animal so you can't have it!'

Sorry to burst your bubble sweety, but everything started off wild. If I have the time, money, space, and knowledge to take proper care of one you damn well bet I'm going to get one. Just because it might start off as a wild animal, that doesn't mean I'm going to mistreat it.

They only run like that a couple times a week at most. Usually they're just lounging about. You could definitely create a cheetah friendly environment. Just have a delicious cheetah meal (dead rabbit or chicken or something) launch across an enclosed run and your cheetah gets it's weekly sprint + meal. Happy cheetah can then spend the rest of the week doing nothing and being lazy.
Fuck. Just build a chicken launcher and feed your cheetah that way every day.
>>
So what's the deal with cheetahs anyway? How are they less aggressive than felines half their size? Is it temperament or the lack of means to easily kill humans due to their small jaws and frail build?
>>
>>2091722
They don't see us as prey because we are too big, versus the other big cats being able to take down animals bigger than themselves.
>>
>>2091726
I doubt bobcats and lynxes see us as prey either, but have you seen how aggressive the little shits are? I've encountered cougars less aggressive than fucking bobcats.
>>
>>2091729
Maybe it's because of how bobcats live? They don't have many natural enemies to compete with, so they are probably less fearful naturally. They don't have to run away as often in order to stay alive.

For having such a long history of being tamed by humans, it's a shame it never got domesticated, same with the elephant.

Both would take too much space and resources to be properly domesticated.
>>
>>2098400
not to mention the problem where their play behavior can result in grievous bodily harm. Which I guess applies to elephants too.

Cheetahs (and cougars IIRC) seem to share the predisposition for being tameable that probably resulted in the domestication of wildcats. When tame, cheetahs act pretty similarly to domestic cats. Every cat owner has their blood shed at some point. Even if tame cheetahs actually were just scaled-up pussycats, they're just too dangerous to catch on as a pet.
That being said, they may well be like cats in that they take well to the domestic life (as in they can live a happy life in the company of people willing to deal with them). Won't make them catch on as common pets, but they're probably a great fit for safari parks, small zoos, and other responsible caretakers. They're iconic, beautiful, and obviously can get along with people; the species will survive in captivity no matter what happens to their wild population.

A cheetah is still probably less dangerous than a Pitbull or Rottweiler.
>>
>>2102958
Probably similar to that of a house cat, though they will abandon their young once they think their kid is young enough to live out on their own.

>>2102964
Except we weigh more than them, humans have a stronger bite than them, their claws are somewhat dull, and they cannot maintain an extended struggle. As the other anon said, a pitbull or rotti is going to be more dangerous

>Become rather wealthy (like 200,000 or more a year)
>Obtain 20-30 acre property of mostly flat farmland
>Pay to have it fenced off and have the fence maintained
>Invest in cameras set up all throughout property
>Invest in raising turkeys, ostriches, and perhaps some goats
>Obtains cheetah and two german shepherds
>Profit??
