For this thread I picked my favorite herp that I have no intention of ever keeping as pet. Pygmy chameleons are the bee's knees.

/herp/ officially official all-purpose care sheet of wonder and magic

>sand a shit
>use a thermostat
>read all the caresheets
>set up your tank before you get your herp
>do not fuck with your new herp for at least one week after bringing it home
>PVC tanks are way better for most applications and worth the extra money

albino king snake poster here, I got caught up in school and a month long xanax binge. Im back again.

>tfw my snake hasnt shed since december..

He/she (unable to sex yet still pretty young), I am feeding fuzzies now, and its perfect. There is noticeable growth and physical length added weekly. Hasnt shed since late december early january if I recall correctly... Sort of concerned but not totally concerned. Hasnt turn away food or regurg'd.

So I just went out and caught a bunch of pill bugs (roly polies, woodlice, isopods, whatever) and millipedes. I figured they'd make for a good clean-up crew in my crested gecko vivarium (live bamboo, bowstring hemp, and moss) and some of my other vivs (American toad, pacman frog, rosehair tarantula).

What do you guys think? Anything to say before I do it?

What are some cheap alternatives to glass tanks for turtles? I've seen plastic storage bins used, but they just don't get big enough. I have a yellowbelly who's going to be at least 7 inches, so it needs to be 70+ gal. I've seen stock tanks used, but the ones I've seen seem pretty pricey as well.

That's not too bad. Most snakes shed every 1-3 months, 4 months at most isn't something to worry about if the snake is growing or it's an adult.

My sunglow boa went 6 months before she went into shed again, this will only be her second shed with me and I got her last July. She's grown 8" in my care and more than doubled her weight, but only shed twice. Pic related.

I'd just feed it like normal and wait for it to shed, maybe even bump the prey size if the fuzzies are on the small side.
>>
>>2083083

that depends on the type of millipede i think. they can emit a noxious substance as a defense mechanism which irritates the skin. i'd probably skip the millipedes. the pillbugs will be plenty sufficient for cleaning crew anyway.

Leopard Geckos are just super lazy little guys right? Mine has never really done much of anything for the 6 months I've had him. He usually just lays in his warm house 95% of the time and looks out the front when not sleeping.

No. No need. In fact putting something like that on them for any length of time is a bad idea as it blocks some of the uv light from getting to tortoise.

Couple ways to find herps you are having difficulty finding on your own:

>reptile shows as stated above, especially the Hamm show in Germany
>find a reptile specialty shop in your general area and request them to bring in some geckos for you. Most shops will happily do this if you give them a partial deposit up front.

Hey guys,

I have some small baby red eye tree frogs. I was feeding the larger frogs these "Calci-worms" which are the larva of black solider flies. Some of these calci-worms buried themselves into the substrate, pupated, and became flies. When I got home, I noticed them in the terrain and before I could decide how to get them out without them going loose in the house, one of the baby red-eyes ate one. The frog is only barely larger than the fly.

Is this going to cause an impact action?
Will it kill he frog?
What do?
>>
>>2083522
Have you given him some water to go into? I would put in in the bath.
>>
>>2083874
yes ive given him a soak yesterday and again today. only got him a few days ago though lol.
>>
>>2083805

Not at all. Soldier flies are equally nutritious feeders and not difficult for frogs to digest. They also have no mouth parts and physically cannot bite your frog even if they wanted to. Soldier flies do not eat in fly form, they just breed and die.
>>
>>2083898

also, if frog can successfully swallow it, it can successfully digest it, no problem.
>>
>>2082931
He gets 1-2 ~20 minute bathes a day and I mist down his enclosure 3 times a day since its been around 15% lower than it should be during the winter with the heat on

I was kind of suspecting it as some sort of shedding issue since he shed near constantly until winter came

How accurate are alcohol based glass thermometers? Just wondering.

My BP just ate her first big meal. Before I got her she was being fed pinky mice. Fed her a medium sized mouse. Her ass won't stop moving around the cage. Bitch, settle down before you regurgitate that meal.

Ok, /herp/, I have some money earmarked to fully redo my ball python's 38"x18"x16" terrarium...

Tell me, /an/. Should I switch my BP to a plastic container or keep her in her aquarium?

Here is the setup I have. Pic related.
-dual light housing w/ red night bulb + blue daylight bulb
-mulch + aspen bedding mix substrate
-two hides, the log is her favorite she hates the bowls I've made for her kept cool side one where it's at
-sm water dish. I have a bigger one, just not enough space hince why I tried to get her to sleep under smaller plastic bowl instead of big ass log
-2 alcohol based thermometers
-4 watt under tank heater

The issues I have are that it never seems to get warm enough. Thermometers on average say 80° F on warm side and 76° F on cool side. The spot just over her UTH where her log hide is gets to about 88° F - 90° F. Humidity isn't as issue. I spray it down 3x a day, mulch keeps in moisure. Plastic bag is over most of the top of the cage. I don't have a gauge for humidity but there's always condensation on the glass.

Would a bin cage set-up like what most breeders have be better? Can it hold heat in better? Can I put my 4 watt UTH under a plastic container? Will it keep it warm enough?
>>
>>2083970

>get a digital thermometer/hygrometer combo. they aren't expensive and i can tell you right now you are misting way too much
>that aspen in your substrate will mold
>she isn't using the plastic bowl hides you've made because the plastic is too thin and is letting too much light in
>ditch the red bulb and use a ceramic heat emitter controlled with a dimmer to adjust its heat output. they can see some part of the wavelength of the red light and it will bother them if kept on all night
>your temperatures are about right, they don't need to be warmer than that aside from the cool side temp which could be just slightly warmer
>>
>>2083970
>88-90 F
>not hot

Fug, are you trying to bake your snake? Don't overcomplicate it. Shit, 76 F with an 80ish warm side is more than enough for most snakes in general. Humidity is better created with a large water dish with significant surface area.
>>
>>2083976
not than anon but arent bp hotspots supposed to range from 88-95?
>>
>>2083986
95 sounds like too much to me
85-90 is a better spot to aim for imo
>>
>>2083976
Have you even researched Ball Pythons bro? Up to 90° F hot spot.
>>
>>2083974
Oh, ok. Thanks. Didn't think of the thin plastic. She hated being in those bowls. I'll scrap em then. I'll look into ceramic heat emitters. It's a better option than buying a basking bulb which was suggested to me. Thing is, basking bulbs produce too much light and dry out the tank.
>>
>>2083974
And I'll definitely mist once a day or once every other day. I misted so much just bc I didn't have a gauge and it was hard to guess. But having the mulch and such I wouldn't need to that much, now that I think of it. Originally just had shavings and they dry out quick.
>>
>>2083898
>>2083904

Thanks! It was just shocking to see this tiny frog eat a fly as big as s/he is!
>>
>>2084168
Cheap way to make a nice thick sturdy snake hide is to go to either hardware store or toy store, look for small plastic buckets. Cut off the bottom 3"-4"or so of bucket, turn this piece upside down, cut small entrance.

Clay planter pots work too but making the right size entrance hole is a task.
>>
>>2084167
Fuck that, that's care sheet bullshit. You need a much larger enclosure to make a proper gradient like that, and life will be simpler if it's constantly kept in the high 70s to low 80s. Trying to get a 90 degree spot's gonna end up heating the whole enclosure past reason or make the snake constantly try to escape.

>it's from Africa
>so hot in Africa
>it must need 90 degree basking spots
>it's nocturnal, so a daytime bulb is essential!
>it's nocturnal, so 90 degree hot spots make sense!

I want to see a behavioral study on wild BPs. Some sort of ethogram and the temperatures of the substrate it frequents before setting out to eat after dusk. Otherwise, I think the 90 degree basking spot is only useful in a very large cage.
>>
>>2084260
It's not difficult at all to get a 90 hot spot with high 70/low 80 ambient in a 20g tank. Under tank heaters accomplish this easily as their radiant heat output is minimal.
>>
Can i attach my radiators from my pc to the bottom of my tank to create hotspots for snek?
>>
>>2084363

>>
>>2084369

So I bought a clown tree frog a while back and it's the most frustrating animal I've ever had
It refuses to eat crickets, I haven't seen it eat anything since I got it. I think it might be eating fruit flies that get in its tank though.

What should I buy for it? It's about the size of a quarter right now.

Also, does anyone have an experience with this company?

Also an undertank heater on one side.
It's nothing special.

I have another 10 gallon I'm making into a planted bioactive tank like my others.
>>
>>2083959
They're pretty accurate, they just take a long time to read temperatures. I use them for back ups.

>>2083970
Get a tub, two hides, ditch the half log or put one of those pieces of plastic on the glass to black it out.

Ditch the aspen from the mix, it's gonna mold.

>>2083976
lol Don't give advice if you don't know shit about snakes. Ball pythons need an ambient of 75-80F with a hot spot of 90F. 88-90F is nowhere near too hot whatsoever unless there is no cool side.

There are people who offer no heat to their ball pythons and keep them 85F, so no, you're wrong. Those temps are more suited to snakes like corns, rainbow boas, and garters. Not a tropical/subtropical snake like a ball python. Research before you come back here making suggestions.

A ball python is not going to digest its food if you keep it 70-80F.

probably never
It will learn to associate your presence with safety, food, and possibly exploration, but I don't know if it will show you whatever affection you're seeking.

and if you've been reading care sheets you should know that it is not okay to feed it every other day
young beardies should be fed insects 2 or 3 times per day and should always have access to fresh veggies

I phrased that weird. I meant affection like when they can just chill on your shirt or just relax in your presence. One of my friends has a beardie and they're best friends and look like they actually enjoy each others company. My beardie's super curious. She always watches me when I walk by or happen to look over at the tank.

I'll switch back to everyday and up it to 3xs a day. I guess that's the last time i listen to my local pet store shmuck lol.

A while. It's a gradual process. They go from being scared of you to being semi nervous to indifferent to relaxed. Beardies eventuallu develop a tendency to try to get your attention when they want to run around outside the tank for a bit.

So this is really weird considering its at a Petco but we have this Russian tortoise that just like lays there and stretches his legs out as far as he can.

24 x 18 x 24 exo. Bought it used. Was used for dart frogs. Very interesting wood in the background. I bought it in the hopes of using it for a green tree python but now I'm wondering if it's too crowded for one with all the branches and the thick walls. I'd add a few removable perches lengthwise. Do you guys think it could work? Or do you think it'd be better for a leachianus gecko? Or am I a retard and it's terrible for both?

This whole "let's all match up our shed cycles" thing is getting out of control. The majority of the time, every single snake ends up shedding at the same time (except the sunglow until now). I now have the 6th confirmed shedder, leaving 3 who are not in shed. Yet.

Anyways here's my pretty hypo BRB in blue.
>>
>>2085895

>18 x 18 x 24 was standard for a single leachie?

That is minimum and I wouldn't advise it at all for an adult Grande Terre (largest leachies). A smaller island locale (Pine Isle, Nuu Ana etc.) would be okay in your 24 x 18 x 24 though, provided you redo that decor to free up space.

As for green tree python, you could use that tank for a baby but obviously you would have to upgrade to a larger tank when snake outgrows it.
>>
>>2086003

Also, a chahoua would be comfy in that. If we're talking leachie price range you might as well consider chewies too.

Also also, that existing decor seems like a health risk regardless of whatever you get. It looks impossible to sterilize. I would yank it all out and redo.

There isn't a tub in existance as big as the 150 gallons you're gonna need for one of those turtles as an adult. Let alone what you'll need for two. You need 10 gallons of water to each inch of shell. You'll need 60 gallons each for those turtles. A tank is your only option.

What about something like this?
>>
>>2086121
well what size is it? that label is just a blurred mess
again, you're gonna need more than 100 gallons to house the both of them
>>
>>2086125
uhhh the image I pulled was 185 gallon I think.
>>
>>2086127
if it specifically says its made to hold water, like its a trough for horses or cattle or something then its probably fine. You'd still have to figure out how you're going to attach all the pumps and stuff you'll need though
>>
>>2086133
yea Ive been scoping farm supply stores, home depot, Lowes, coastal, OSH etc etc and been seeing these things that would do nicely. Im pretty handy so rigging the pums and other shit wouldnt be a problem. But i always have that fear that the nig ass heavy tub filled with 100+ gallons of water is gonna fall through my apartment floor and fuck everyone day up. Although soooon ill be in a house and itll just be my problem when it falls thru the floor.
>>
>>2086136
yyyyeah I'd avoid any super big tanks in an apartment, I don't know how comfortable I'd be with a literal half ton of water on my floor, especially if you aren't ground floor
>>
i've got a 20 gallon long tank what should i put in it? was thinking leopard gecko... any thoughts?
>>
>>2086156
well you dont have many options, leo is certainly one of them
or any other ground dwelling geckos like that
you could look into steppe runners

or if snakes are your thing a hog nose or rosy boa would do well. mmmmmaybe even a children's python
>>
question from a VERY new turtle owner, i've just put a new baby turtle into a 15~ gallon tank, should i get him another turtle for company or is there something else that would be good for the turtle's environment?
>>
>>2086159
reptiles (barring very few exceptions) do not need company
so don't another one unless you have about double the space already available
>>
>>2086158
steppe runners look like really chill lizards. from what i've read so far people say they're very personable so that's awesome. thanks for the suggestion, i'll definitely have to read more about them.
>>
>>2086166
what about small fish or shrimp (or something of the like)?
>>
>>2086169
right now since its so small, you might not have problems
but aquatic turtles are ravenous predators and it seems most people forget that.
Any other living thing you put in there WILL get eaten at some point.
>>
>>2086115
>a steady diet of commercial pellets and meal worms
your steady diet will quickly lead to health problems. meal worms fatten them up quickly and should only be fed as an occassional treat. pellets are an awful main food.
>>
>>2086104
No, I meant sterilize it to remove bacteria left by the previous inhabitants. You always want to do that when changing species living in the tank.
>>
>>2086173
my friend had turtles that were fucking vicious. if you put anything up to the glass they'd chomp like it was their job. it was super badass

Hey guys so I want to get some earthworms to feed my pacman frog and my toad. It's mainly just to mix up diet, but it's also because my toad is a picky little butthole and prefers the eat things that squirm as opposed to crawling food. However, he burns through mealworms like you wouldn't believe, and superworms are too fatty to be fed so much. I also thing that my African clawed and my turtle would enjoy some worms to snack on, too.

That being said, I don't know where I should get some. I would just go outside and grab a few, but I'm surrounded on all sides by crop fields that I know use pesticides and fertilizers, so that's a no-go. I suppose I could get some from a bait store, but I heard that those can have unhealthy chemicals in them, too. Is this true?

So where should I buy some frog-safe mealworms from? I'd prefer a type of place that I could find and go to today, since today is their feeding day.
>>
>>2086337
pet stores with bigger reptile and fish sections might have them available, titled as Nightcrawlers
>>
At approximately what size should a beardies diet change from primarily insects to primarily vegies?
>>
>>2086121
If it's big enough, yeah. I don't think 185 gallons will be enough to house the two turtles together as adults, though. You will eventually need an upgrade.

>>

Yeah i see the care sheets coming up on Google are pretty iffy. Best bet when this happens is to read all of them, get a general sense of the basic average of suggested care, work from there. Check and see if there are any books that might help give better information.
>>
>>2086826
Right on, thank ya kind anon. I just wanna make sure I take right care of it. Already got a Beardie and a Leopard Gecko, just wanna care right for this one too
>>
My baby beardie keeps head bobbing at his reflection in the tank. Every once in a while I hear a loud thud. I don't know if he's running into the glass or hes hitting it with his tail. He doesn't show any signs of stress marks on his stomach though.

Should I be worried?
>>
Do ball pythons like to climb around when they get older/heavier? My young one likes to climb on those suction cup vines sometimes but once he gets some more heft they surely won't support him. I'm thinking ahead to when he outgrows his current setup, would he like to have those sturdy wire vines to climb on?

Been eyeing an exo-terra terrarium with the front opening doors for when he grows some more. (Yes I know about PVC enclosures but I'm not interested). They have it in 18x36x18 or a short version at 12 inches high. I'm wondering if I should just get the short version if the vertical space won't be used or if the taller one will be worth setting up some climbing vines and structures in.
>>
Man, my ball python hasn't eaten in a month and two weeks(hasn't eaten since i got her), she looks just as lively as ever and no noticeable weight loss and while yes i know this is normal it still bothers me a little when my jaguar and corn eat like madmen

Yeah mine still climbs around. The first 5-6 years I had him, he pretty much lived in the tree I had in his cage. Now he's got a basking shelf in his PVC enclosure and he uses it every night unless he just ate or is in shed.

Why aren't you interested in PVC? It's so much easier to put climbing opportunities in it because you can screw them in place, they hold heat and humidity like no other cage I've ever used, they're lightweight, can be taken apart (that means it's super easy to move with them), and they're easy to clean. They're well worth the price.

>>2086926
That's not even long enough to bat an eyelash at. It's just something you have to get used to with ball pythons, it's what they do.
>>
So sometimes (read: almost every time) when I rub my Columbian tegu he leans into my hand that's rubbing him. Is this a sign he's enjoying it? He sometimes chuffs a bit while doing it.

Thanks, I'll go with the tall one. Will get some posable climbing vines and go innawoods and find some branches.

As far as PVC cages I simply don't like how they look. They'd make a lot of sense if I were planning on having more than one reptile but I am resisting becoming a reptile collector as much as possible. I like the aesthetic of terrariums and making an enclosure pretty to suit the pretty snek.
>>
>>2086855
i just got one too. idk if it's bad but you can put up a fishtank background to help him/her stop that. i found one at a local pet store and it was only like 5 bucks for a 40 gallon worth. it also calms them down a little and makes the tank look nice
>>
>>2086976

>>
>>2087140
>Colombian tegu

They are spastic ass lizards. Maybe you got lucky. I got ripped off once and ordered an Argentine that turned out to be a Colombian off kingsnake classifieds. Tried my best to calm it down over a few months but progress was minimal. Ended up selling it when it was an adult and bought a real Argentine who was amazingly docile and inquisitive.
>>
>>2087155
It's more about the functionality than the looks, they really are super easy to maintain. The outside of the cage doesn't matter as much as what's inside imo.

I'm the exact opposite, I think glass tanks look terrible and think PVC looks good. I don't like that front piece my AP cages have, though. I like the whole front to be open, but it isn't secure without it so oh well.

And yeah I understand that, I've got 9 but I've been pacing myself, trying not to get more snakes than I can become attached to and care for properly. I know they don't care about me, but that's not important. They're pets to me, not things. To each their own if someone collects them as long as the animals are cared for, but I own snakes for the snakes not the collection.

I need some input. I own 2 female leos, one adult, 1 nearly adult, both doing well and seem chill with each other/they ignore each other. They were quite a lot afraid of each other at the beginning, but everything is fine now. I own a 1m x 0.5 x 0.5 tank.
Today, I saw a sunglow leo in my local pet shop, about half the size of my 2 current leos. I'd love to get a sunglow, I love that morph. Is the space still okay for 3 female leos? Will the size/age difference cause problems?
What would /an/ recommend doing? I cant afford the space for a second tank, and there's no way that I give one of my leos away, I can't stand people doing that.

I don't know that keeping something smaller in the enclosure would be a good idea. A lot of times they can be bullied. I know lots of breeders that keep groups of females together within a few grams of each other for that reason.

any ideas for a portable outdoor russian tortoise enclosure?
We have one in our store that's really aggressive with the other tortoises so they want to get rid of him asap. He seems pretty chill otherwise

I'd probably have to build it since I want to be able to just move it from weed patch to weed patch and its probably got be semi covered for fear of foxes and raccoons and shit.
>>
>>2087628

The size of the tank isn't a problem but the size difference of the geckos definitely is. The smaller get will need her own tank. Is you can't get a second tank, do not get this new gecko. The two larger females won't attack her but they will prevent her from eating and will bully her. It wouldn't be a happy home for her.

My bearded dragon Eddie passed away this morning. The vet told me a week ago he may have a form of stomach cancer. The tests alone just to see if that was what it was were nearly 200$ I couldn't afford it. He seemed to be getting better but was still refusing to eat. He got to spend a lot of time outside basking in the sun during my kid's birthday.
My 5 year old always called him a Dragon Lizard so when I buried him I threw this in with him.

I had him for about 2 years, I believe he was 4 years old when he died. He drove cross country with me riding on the steering wheel. He would sit on my shoulder when I would go shopping. I've been blubbering in front of my 5 year old all day, she's taking it better than I am.
He was my first pet and my best friend.
Bye Eddie.

That's actually quite common. Mine is the same way, although instead of a branch he has a basking shelf now. Certain localities of ball pythons have been found to be semi-arboreal in a way. They aren't truly semi-arboreal, but they spend much time in the trees, with a huge portion of their diet being made up of birds they catch. Just because a species is terrestrial doesn't mean they won't make use of climbing opportunities.

Can you guys tell me what's different between, say, a Blue Tongued Skink and a Ball Python?

Ever since I've been 7 I've had a fasination with snakes, always took care of the ones in the schools and go to reptile expos very often, yet I've never actually ever had the chance to own one until this year when I got a landlord who would be ok with it. But now that I'm not bound to any rules of what I can and cant own, I'd like to compare the difficulty of the two for a "somewhat experienced" beginner. I opt to have a snake around 6 feet some day, but I would want experience handling them and getting to know them and how to care for them first.
>>
>>2089864
well
the biggest difference is that a blue tongue skink is a lizard
and a ball python is a snake
>>
>>2089869
I guess I mean in terms of care. I know you don't have to feed a snake as often nor have to do any of that vitamin powders.
>>
>>2089870
right. a ball python would be much less maintenance. feeding it once a week and making sure it temp and humidity are correct are pretty much it.

BTS are a little more intensive. Their environment is easy enough, but their diet is a little trickier. They require variety in veggies, fruits, and proteins. You'll have to switch it up with collard greens and squashes, fruit every so often. protein from insects as well as things like chicken or eggs

Yes, freak accidents can always happen.
You might as well offer no climbing opportunities (a fall at an odd angle even from a few inches could possibly cause injury!) only feed it food mushed into pulp (what if it chokes somehow?) get FULL vet checkups every single week, and also keep it in a fully sterilized room where you change into a full biohazard suit and shower before you enter. After all, there is a possibility of you bringing in disease, right?

>>
>>2090099
do you like snakes?

>>
>>2089958
Pretty sure they're trolling, sand isn't good for any captive species. There's maybe 3-4 reptiles I can think of that do well on pure loose sand, but none of them are common in the pet trade.

That said, a sand MIXTURE is ok, just not sand by itself, and stay away from calcium sand. With bearded dragons, it's best to stay away from loose substrate altogether unless you go bioactive/know how to set up the bedding so it doesn't swallow it.

>>2089977
That's why you glue it in place. A whole lot more secure than some sand, without the possibility of sand shifting to the top and becoming ingested.

>>2090080
Wipe it down with a cloth.
>>
>>2090080

Remove stool/urates, moisten paper towel with 50/50 vinegar water solution, wipe tile, moisten another paper towel with clean water, wipe tile. Vinegar is non toxic and will not harm your beardie. Just don't spray it in the tank. Always spray towel outside tank, then use towel to clean.

2 Qick (Leo) questions:
1) Europoor here, Daylight savings changed, how should I do that in my tank? I was away for 2 days, so they now had 2 days 9-21 instead of 8-20 of light. I think I'll go to 8 - 21 over Summer, and introduce this step-wise, meaning, over next week, I'll set my timer to 8 - 20:15, 8- 20:30, etc, is that a good idea? 11 hours of warmth/light are okay for leos during summertime, right?
2) How do I stop them from digging in the sand? Before you stop reading, I got 95% tiles, I just use the sand as filler between tiles/ poop box, but they now discovered the joy of digging, meaning that each morning, the tank is destroyed. Should I add more clay to the sand to make it hard, or just let them have fun?

How old are leopard geckos when they are sold to pet stores usually?

Because I got mine from a petsmart 4 months ago and I'm wondering if he/she should be old enough to reliably tell the sex now. If so, In pretty sure my gecko is female because while I can see the pores they are not distinct or darkened at all.
>>
>>2090351
daylight savings does not exist in nature, you're overthinking this too much
yes get some excavator clay
>>
>>2090354

Pet stores can be pretty irresponsible when it comes to selling very young geckos. Gecko could be as young as 1 month at time of sale. Leos are quite easy to sex once they are above 15 grams or so. The pores yes and also hemipenal bulge at base of tail. If you can manage a clear picture I can take a look if you like.
>>
>>2090351

Don't change your geckos schedule because of daylight savings. Just keep their timer the same as if it hadn't happened. 12-14 hours sunlight for leos during summer months.
>>
>>2090362
>>2090382
Thanks, I will, of course I meant 12 hours of sunlight during Winter, which I'll bump up slowly to 14-ish right now

Oh, okay that's fairly young then. I'm not sure on my gecko's weight but he/she is about 8 inches long from nose to tail and will be at least 5 months old on the 5th of April if I bought as a month old baby.

Pic as requested.

Hokey dokey, your gecker is a girl.

Age i would ballpark at about 1 year judging by overall size and thickness of tail in photo. Pretty close to adult size.

short answer:no

long answer:
Really depends on what you want and its availability/how much your willing to gamble incase its sick or in some cases not even the right animal

For the Leopard Gecko keepers/breeders, who's the best breeder to get a high end leopard pair to experiment with breeding, myself?
>>
>>2091129
>breeding leos
don't
>>
>>2091133
Why not dub dubs?
>>
>>2091134
because just like ball pythons and corn snakes the market is oversaturated as it is

do you honestly have the time and space to care for any leos you don't sell?
What morphs are you going to breed? Do you have a plan? Do you have charts and an endgoal?
You can't just start breeding leos because you feel like it, thats irresponsible and its how we get all these borderline abused animals in places like petsmart.
>>
>>2091129

don't recommend breeding as anon above has mentioned, but to answer your question on best breeders:

>Canada

>theurbangecko.com

>USA

Steve Sykes
>geckosetc.com

Ron Tremper
>leopardgecko.com

John and Alyssa Scarbrough. This couple is newer to leo breeding than aforementioned dinosaur Tremper and long time staple Sykes. They have very quickly made a good name for themselves in the past 8-9 years they've been in business.

hey guys casual albino kingsnake poster here. Ive been gone for awhile haha. My snake's last shed was in late december maybe early january if I recall correctly. It is the winter here (Louisiana), but spring time is rearing about. He is under a year, weighing in at around 30 grams and I feed him a fuzzy once a week. Im not interested in fattening him up and overfeeding him to force growth. Just curious if I should worry about 2+ months without a shed.

There is noticeable growth, and he did have 4-5 sheds from november to january. He was shedded once every 2-4 weeks at one point (good clean sheds, not stuck or dry).

I initially imagined a rather huge sand boa.

Refusing food is just something snakes do, and if he's showing interest then there's something wrong about the way you're presenting food or with the prey item itself. Snakes sometimes change their preference for how they eat, something you did last year may not work anymore.

I've just come to accept it with my ball python, his fasts generally last 2-6 months, and 8 months, almost 9 months, being his record.

How often are you offering? What things have you tried? How long has he gone off food, and has he lost any weight?
>>
>>2090343
take a needle or a knife. Poke the mouse in the back of the skull and allow delicious brain fluids to go all over the mouse. Provoke the snake lightly, if it refuses, it refuses. Sucks, but snakes are low key niggers.

Would a ten gallon aquarium be too small for an anole or house gecko?

Man everyones making specifice generals dragging the traffic away from this thread.

We have this thread for a reason, no need to split up the traffic from an already slow board.

I only ever lurk here for pictures of reptiles, and given how inactive this thread has gotten judging from the thread watcher is a bit of a letdown. Boards like /d/ and /trash/ have valid reasons for segregating things a lot but for /an/ this is just ridiculous

Nah, that's large enough for two females and a male of either species if you've given them hides. Maybe more. Cork bark tubes are a great way to increase secure surface area for arboreal species.

redpill me on salamanders

why do I not want an axolotl?
>>
>>2092725
Axolotls are pretty good animals if you actually do your research and get the stuff they need.
Make sure to have a water chiller on hand and a good sponge filter.
>>
>>2092719
10 is definitely too small for two females and a male. One anole in a 10 gallon would be cramped. I have 1 anole and 2 long tailed lizards in about a 25 tall, and even that is a little on the small side of things. They run around and patrol their territory constantly.

she seemed to actually take my words to heart, so hopefully she'll get that taken care of

also I convinced and mom and her daughter to also not get the crushed walnut shells
I don't even know why we sell that shit.
