What is your dog like? There was a thread a few days ago about adopting a dalmatian, and some people said they can be mean and hard to train; but I've always heard that they were smart and easygoing. What has your experience been?

Yeah, I was in that thread, and I still wouldn't recommend a dalmatian for a first time dog owner.
Proper socialization is key, as is training. Without it they can become aggressive. They are most definitely a guard dog, so for them to be wary of strangers is normal.
The high energy thing is mainly when they are puppies, as they get older they stay active, but mine have always just kind of do whatever the owner is doing. If that is working outside all day or laying on the couch.
Proper research is important in selecting a breeder with quality dogs. If you buy from a byb you will get a dog that is harder to train and probably have more health issues.
These dogs are extremely intelligent and love to show off. I've had these dogs for over twenty years so I kinda know what to expect with them. If you are interested in the breed I highly suggest you check in to local clubs. Bear in mind a quality bred dalmatian is pricey these days.

I really don't know what she is, she and her siblings (most of them have long hair) were rescued by an animal rescue organisation form a dog-killing kennel (hopefully I translated that right).
Usually, stray dogs are brought there. So I guess the whole litter of puppies were found in the streets.
She is very smart and sometimes pretty stubborn also absolutely loves the water
Thought about getting a DNA test for her, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money.
After all, it wouldn't change anything..
but it would still be interesting to know

Yeah, I hate trimming them. This was taken right before her yearly vet visit, I was waiting.
She also looks chunky here. She will put on a few during winter because she doesn't want to stay out at all. She drops it quick come spring when she can stay outside and run all day.

The Nail Maintenance For Dogs group on Facebook is actually an excellent resource on getting unruly nails in check. Consider joining it to get some better information than you'll find on 4chan.
Letting your dog's nails get that long is cruelty, though, as it does put enormous strain on the joints in the feet and legs.
I clip my dog's nails weekly to keep them at the right length.

Incidentally, yes, I am. But nail care is extraordinarily important. It's like teeth. People let their dogs' teeth rot in their heads and then wonder why their dogs have to be euthanized when their jaws have decayed almost completely from infection. Nails and teeth should be part of basic dog care, just like food, water, shelter, and veterinary care.
any of you have experience with getting a dog from a reputable breeder? i've started looking into getting a corgi and it's getting overwhelming to even think about. as a broke college student i thought i'd put it off until i graduated but to even be put on the waiting list i feel like i need to have a house with a yard or something and previous dog experience and it's really disheartening.

ehh in my opinion it's better to find a pup or a young dog you connect with other than being put in line for one. corgi is an energetic breed not suited for college life unless you go out nad are active or you have yard for him.
my advice is keep looking also it doesnt hurt to look at shelters too man. there are alot of perfectly good dogs that are needing a home

also i found cleo by chance i was originally dead set on an Australian shehpherd, but i opened myself to shelters too and found cleo and shes an amazing dog, loyal as all hell and smart too. shes a bit smmaller than an australian shep but she's great

Your best bet is trolling the akc breed clubs. Find one in your area, strike up a conversation with the breeder referral person, and then talk to the breeder. Explain what's going on in your life, where you're planning on being, and they may be flexible with their lists. If you aren't in the right place when your name comes up, they may be able to work with you for when it is the right time. Better yet, find dog shows in your area and talk to the breeders there. Most of them are nice people, and if they aren't you just walk away
