So this morning I went into my backyard and spotted THIS lil nigguhh lizard that i've never seen before in my life we looked at each other for a second but before I could snap a photo it ran into the bushes super fast so here is an artist rendition of him. He was about as tall as a blu-ray case and could easily stand on a palm of my hand. Its most striking feature was the large feet and it stood upright.

What I want to know is what species of lizard could this be?

Figured. Sounded like a monitor of some sort. Probably a baby.

Wish I could find the cute pic of the pet monitor that's standing in someone's house that's always posted on this board.

THanks anon. I thought they were exotic pets, didn't know they lived around the place! Then again I live right next to a forest.

So you're sure there's not a smaller variant of this species? Because it was much tinier and had a sandy/grey colour and its eyes were pronounced. At first i jokingly guessed it was some kind of mutant gecko. Cool pics tho!

A monitor is a totally valid possibility, but your picture and description reminds me a lot of a baby frilled dragon. Monitors are a lot of things, but I'm not sure anyone would look at one and say it's striking feature was large feet.

Thanks. I need to save that. And it will probably never come up again, of course.

Yeah bug eyes doesn't sound like a monitor and my first guess was a frilled lizard, but I was thinking he either would have noticed the frill, even down, or had seen frilled lizards before and the image he drew looked like a monitor to me.

The size you describe could easily just be a baby monitor, but the bug eyes thing basically excludes that possibility. What part of Australia are you from?

Nah, it's useful in dinosaur threads when you want to make a point (positive or negative) about featherless raptors.

It may have been that, maybe.. I don't remember any frill but it may have been small enough to not notice. The skin coloration is spot on but its posture was definitely more upright standing and the feet were much larger, more claw-like and spread out. Just imagine that lizard but in the shape and posture of the OP pic! It was also about 1.8x bigger

they do stand up in that exact same position

Is also fairly easy to miss the frill if it's a young animal with it tucked up and you aren't looking for it.
