Seriously turn off your actinics, or I'll refuse to help you, and I'm probably one of three people that frequent this board that can actually do anything. I literally can't see shit

I know right? Isn't the crisp, clear picture on that just breathtaking?

kek
how do I cure that?
>>

I had a sally lightfoot that performed those surgeries very well. Would wait for a fish to swim under his rock, jump on top of them, and scoop out its eye's. Highly effective. Unfortunately, he always took it one step to far and decided to eat his patient. I'll send him to you if you want :)
>>
>>2074393
a generous offer but I can't trust a dude named Sally.

he's kinda pretty. I can see why he's called Sally.

the man in black is dead, son. Let him rest in peace.

I'm a fan.
Here's a pic I shot of another guy named Sally. This one was less stuck in a drinking glass than yours. He might have been looking for eyeballs to remove.
>>
>>2074415
Lol he was only in that pint glass for a few hours, til the new owner could come get him. That's not your tank is it? I've always wanted a tidal saltwater tank, filled with many cool crabs and inverts. I finally have a great enclosure that will be suitable, but it's fuckhuge and super heavy, so I'm not sure if I'm going to set it up or not, since it will have to be moved, and weighed nearly 60lbs completely empty.
>>
>>2074415
That's a beautiful sally though. They are truly brutal fish though. You can clearly see the spikes on the front legs of mine in that pint glass. He used them to stab into the fish, when he jumps off his perch, and slam them into the ground.
>>
>>2074422
>That's not your tank is it?
Nah, that was a tidepool on Hawaii.
>I've always wanted a tidal saltwater tank
me too, anon. Me too. I still haven't figured out how to do a wave machine that dumps a fuckton of water but doesn't splash salt all over everything, you know?
>>
>>2074423
I used to have a giant Caribbean hermit crab that did the same shit. He killed fish so fast. I ended up giving him to my son to keep in a 15g tank. He did pretty well there for a few years until his heater went out and nobody noticed.
>>
>>2074424
Beautiful pic. did you get a chance to do any diving off on the Molokini crater? Beautiful reef, and a true testament to how resilient marine life really is.
I have an idea of how to do it. I've seen very large surge tanks (something that was used way back in the hobby, not popular at all anymore), which basically are just large tanks that slowly get water pumped into them out of the tank, then when they get filled up they dump the water back into the tank, making a big 'surge' wave, that pulses throughout the tank. I've thought of making a modified one that basically takes out water slowly, then adds that water back at the same rate it was taken out. Just using simple pumps, you can easily have both the intake and outtake under the water line, keeping splashing to a minimum. It would be difficult to orchestrate properly, but it could also be done with just a single pump, and like a 30GPH electronic valve, which would be easiest/most foolproof.
>>
>>2074426
Crabs can be incredibly efficient killing machines. People underestimate them and only think they eat detritus or are oppurtunistic feeders. Nope. My sally lightfoot is easily the most predatory thing I've had in my tank. Unless I really do have a mantis, but that's yet to be figured out..
>>
>>2074430
>Beautiful pic.
thanks!
Nah, I didn't dive Molokini. Doesn't look like I'm going to this year either. I'm booked up to dive Cozumel, Belize, Honduras and Grand Cayman later this year. All in one shot though, going on a cruise.

I like your thoughts on a smooth surge system. That sounds like it'd mimic ebb and flow in tidepools nicely.
>>
>>2074337

>Not enjoying a dank predator reference.

Anon plz.
>>
>>2074611
whoops. I did miss that one.....
>>2074573
Molokini is the reason why I have my reef now. It was such an experience diving on that reef, that I just fell in love right there. I live in the middle of the US, far far away from any natural reef, so my only option to be able to enjoy the beauty and complexity of a reef was to make my own little piece of the ocean.
The hardest thing with a surge setup like that is the tank setup will not be able to incorporate any kind of sump, otherwise the tank will run out of water at some point, unless you only run the sump pump during the day, when it's 'high tide', but that wouldn't be ideal. You could do it relatively easily using HOB equipment like HOB filters and protein skimmers, things that aren't heavily effected by constantly changing water levels.
That sounds amazing man, please take lots of pictures so you can share :). I'm working towards getting dive certified, but I really enjoy free diving anyways, so it's not a huge deal to come up for a gasp of air every once in awhile.

my fuckin 1.5 inch dwarf crawfish eventually figured out that she could stand on the side of her rock and snag endler's livebearers as they swam past. they disappeared one by one until i caught her in the act. i couldn't figure out how she could possibly get them

she also used to ride the bubble column in the tank, fall back down, and then ride it again for hours. they are such cool little pets.
>>
>>2074799
Lol yup, they are tricky little bastards! Very fun to watch
>>
>>2074799
Can u ms paint what was happening.
It was standing on a rock to catch fish? Whats the big deal, it walked up a rock to catch a fish? Im confuzex
>>
>>2075019
dwarf crawfish stay at bottom, endlers stay at top, that's part of why they go together. he climbed a rock all the way to the top of the tank, and was standing sideways extended off the rock with his claws stretched all the way out. caught them by the tail
>>
>>2075025
What are endlers?
