It's different from rat to rat, but all of the ones I've bought(I've had 11) have been people friendly from the start. I never had to train them not to bite. Some of them I bought from breeders who socialize them and make sure they're friendly before selling, others were plain feeders. If they've been handled well by humans from birth, they should be friendly.

They're kind of like small dogs, so people usually like them once they see they don't bite and aren't dirty like feral rats. Maybe the ones your family had hadn't been treated very well by the place you got them from?

I don't know if I really "hate" any of them, but I am not fond of hamsters or sugar gliders and wouldn't want to own them myself.

Yes, the born wild one in particular is quite aggressive towards new people (and shiny things, and noisy things, and me if he doesn't approve of my behavior, and so on...)

Ultimate plan is to build an orchard/aviary/environment outside for them so if a potential partner didn't like them they wouldn't have to deal with them

two cats, one I rescued, the other I got from a family's friend
>Animals you plan on realistically owning in the future
a corn snake, maybe a cali kingsnake too
>Pet animals you hate

>Would you date someone who doesn't like the kind of pet you own?
