Wiki lists American Pit Bulls being on 35lbs, and Staffordshire Terriers maxing out at 60lbs.
At that weight, they'd be a chew toy for your average Labrador, but I know that's not true.

Maybe he means lab mix. Lab mixed with anything is very common, especially some sort of pit x lab. Hell I know three on them in my neighborhood(just assuming they are pitmixes since its so common). But mix lab with any stocky dog with a wider head and they look like they have pit in them. My cousin had a lab/american bulldog mix(we knew the parents) and had to get rid of it because they couldn't convince the landlord it wasnt a pitbull.

And many large breeds can't tell the difference between a small dog or a squirrel. My buddy has a female pitbull who's never bitten anybody and is a big baby, but anything smaller than her is a squirrel to her and is for eating.

No dog in the world could take on a fully grown northern wolf. Almost no dog could take a wolf at parity.
Some dogs might take fully grown wolves of smaller, southern subspecies.
I actually think a 25-30 kg game bred Pitbull for example could take a 20-25 kg Himalayan or Arabian wolf. While the wolf will have a bigger head and longer teeth, the pits determination, pain threshold , fearlessness and endurance might work in his favor.
Pitbulls have been selected to fight, wolves have been selected to survive.
One has to consider though that dogs evolved from small wolf subspecies and thus are shit at over 40-50 kg (Some lgds might still function at higher weights due to their slower, semi-natural selection living in the wild and sometimes cross breeding with wolves).
A very large but functional LGD (Kangal, Tibetan or Ovcharka), Bandog or even rare St Bernard might win against a smaller wolf. I also think that the some fighting sight hound might have a chance against a smaller wolf (an exaptional irish wolfhound, bullarab, bully grey or one of those fierce Indian Rajapalayams). Similar large sight hounds have historically been used to hunt wolves and while not as good a fighter as the pitbull or mastiff, the sight hound is an excellent killer who knows how to go to the throat.
