How can I tell if a cat is male or female with a ton of long

How can I tell if a cat is male or female with a ton of long hair and is fixed? The guy I got him from said he was a male and got him fixed and stuff but everyone asks me if its a girl and assumed it's a girl and I got medicine from the vet and it said (fe) next to his name and I'm not sure if that means feline or female

typically (fe) or (fel) are abbreviations for feline, and F is for female
