I feel like /an/ won't mind if I dump pics and gush over this guy.

I adopted him noon today. He got along great with my bf's dog, he's a 2 year old healthy Irish Wolfhound supposedly Great Pyrenees mix, but I'll leave that judgement to you guys (and the vet). His shelter name is Amos which I'm thinking of keeping cuz it sounds fine with Reptar. Other options aren't sticking as well, Rufus, Scruffy, Bear, Sully, Maccon, meh.

He's such a sweet, well mannered gentle giant. I'm so happy I scooped this one up ;-; he heels when on leash and is super gentle on walks, he leans against you to be pet, he's perfect.

tl;dr I'm excited and want to show off new pup

What kind of dog is Reptar?
>>
Do adopted dogs become friendly with you after you adopt them? Does he wag his tail when he sees you?
>>
I want to scratch him :3

Reptar is a shepherd mix, I hear mastiff or pitbull the most. Someday I'll spend the money to DNA test them both just for kicks.
>>2043347
I'm pretty sure he has no clue what is going on. He was at a foster up in some NC mountains before here, so he was being treated well for a month before I got him. Reptar was a stray for a long time, then in animal control, and then in a shelter, so he was a lot more grateful to stretch out and be pet and cuddled.
>>2043381
He loves it. He leans on you to pet him and gently paws at you if you stop.

Thanks, I'd been looking for months on petfinder and adoptapet and different shelters around my area, most of them fell through, but this guy was meant to be. The search for a pupper is fun :) both those websites let you select a size preference which was very convenient

Wow! Really a beautiful dog Anon.

A friend of mine had an Irish Wolfhound and it was very smart and super gentle.

Hope you enjoy your new friend...and thanks for adopting from a shelter

Adorable doge, weim!

I'm the anon that's been looking for a dog-friendly cat. I actually shopped around at my local shelter today for a dog. I found one that had the perfect temperament, but had hip issues that would keep it from running, and I was looking for an exercise buddy. Plus, they also don't cat-test dogs until the adoption process has started. A local rescue is having an adoption event this weekend, so I'll try my luck there!

Anyways, congrats!

Nice doggy, you will be best of friends

can definitely see the irish wolfhound in him. not so sure about the pyreneese.

Thanks! He's still settling in, so he's not very attentive to me and doesn't know a lot of commands, but he'll get there.
>>2045913
Thank you :) I've already planned play dates this and next week lol. He plays like a giant puppy, it's funny.
>>2045934
It's 5am I'm squeezed between both right now it's heaven.
>>2046371
That's sad, anon. :c The very first dog I found had hip dysplasia and he wasn't even a year old, he was the chillest pup and laid his head on your hand like he was lucky to have been touched by you, but it was because it was painful for him to play sometimes, he would need surgeries down the road, and they said he was likely to lose mobility before he reached his senior years. Twas so sad. His name was raven. Got adopted out anyway, but to someone who understood and could afford it all. Why won't the cat-test dogs right away? It's so easy :/ plus it helps out for them to be adopted.
Thanks though!

Thanks!

He has double hind dew claws which supposedly is a great pyrenees thing and his face and ears kind of resemble, but that's about it. I don't think Irish Wolfhounds are meant to be so fluffy though. Idk, he checked out perfectly so I still haven't taken him to the vet, but I think her guess is as good as ours tbqh senpai.

Where are you? I have never met an Irish Wolfhound or mix of that breed. I always wanted one or at least see one when I was a kid because of some book I read. I have met Elkhounds, Deerhounds, Russian wolfhounds everything but the Irish hound.

South Carolina. Wouldn't mind meeting up at a dog park near me. I had never seen any dogs like him either or any of those breeds rly. Working on making some webms of them romping around.

On a side note, I really think he was purposefully bred and sold like this and I've just adopted someone's family dog that caught a scent of something and got lost trying to track it down. He has a super high prey drive too.

>He has double hind dew claws which supposedly is a great pyrenees thing

I specialize in Great Pyrs. I don't see anything in the bone structure, eyes, face, fur, ears, or tail that resemble a Pyr.

Double dew-claws are only found in 100% pure full-blooded Great Pyrs, and are a breed standard. A 95% pure Great Pyr will only have 1 dew claw on each rear leg. I actually have a girl who is pure Great Pyr except 1 Great, great grandfather that was Jindo. She only has single dew claws. All my AKC Pyrs have doubles.

Double dew claws are stupidly rare, but it is not limited to Great Pyrs. Beauceron, Lundehunds, Icelandic Sheepdogs, Anatolians, and Estrela Mountain Dogs have them, for example. And the dog doesn't have to be pure blooded to have them. Only with the Great Pyr is pure-blood needed to have double-dews. It's a very fast way to tell if a Great Pyr is pure or not (full-blooded, by definition, can be 85% and not pure).
>>
>>2047594
Huh, I have no clue what else he could be mixed with then :p never seen double dews before though. They look long on him, I'm probably gonna take him to get those clipped before they get any longer :| I read they can grow get long and painful.
