I have the same problem. I'm absolutely going to get her spayed. I was going to anyways, I just thought I had more time before her first heat would kick in. My understanding is that you really shouldn't do it until after the heat. In the meantime, is there anything I can do? I've never had a cat in heat before and I'm not sure how to handle this. Do I just wait it out, or is there some kind of food or medicine I can give her to help calm her down?

Just got to wait it out. It's slightly more dangerous to spay a cat in heat only because there is more potential for more blood loss. The hardest spay on a healthy cat is still much easier than any limb removal, foreign object SX, or exploratory though. It may, however, cost you about $20 more.
