So my dog has a partially torn cruciate ligament. We're gonna get surgery, but until then I'm icing his knee every night and I'm looking for some kind of brace he can wear during the day.

I saw this on amazon:

That goes on the dog's hock, not the knee. Does having a brace on the hock help the knee at all? I would think not, but people in the reviews talked about their dogs having bad knees and acl tears (and one person specifically mentioned a partially torn cruciate ligament).

Other than that question, does anyone here recommend this or any other leg/knee braces for dogs? I've got a 78 pound pitbull by the way.

There's not really any evidence that a brace works better than restricting activity coupled with physical therapy.

Does anyone know what Active Range of Motion Exercises are? I know passive ones but not active.

I assume it means exercises that the dog does, rather than me just flexing his legs for him. Something like this:

Also that link says 5 minutes on, 5 minutes off, 5 minutes on with ice. I know for people you generally want to ice an injury for at most 20 minutes (then you stop so as not to risk frostbite), then you can repeat after 20 minutes without ice. Anybody know if this is different for dogs?
