I still don't see how somewhere along the line they found it better to not have legs at all. Is it because of the large prey they eat? Would legs just get in the way?
There's a theory that snakes evolved from reptiles that took advantage of a burrowing niche millions of years ago. Since then they've moved into arboreal, aquatic and other niches.
