In the US, at least, it pretty much only works out if you are wealthy and retired or you are a kid with a wealthy grandpa who is willing to apprentice you.

My uncle ran a falconry centre and he never did this.
Now, when he had shows in the centre he would schedule them around feeding time so they would be hungry and therefore be more active... But he would feed them during the show so they were only hungry for a short period of time.
He was one of the people who founded the small company that uses birds of prey to keep other birds off plane runways.
