First of all humans need to either let it happen or die for this to happen.

After that yeah, I think we will. The CO2 is rising again and birds have the best well equipped respiratory systems to deal with it. Since raptors exist everywhere on the planet, eagles, owls, vultures, etc, the odds are really high.
>>
Long after the human races have ended. A new species will rise. This species will mutate and inbreed until it is changed beyond recognition. The resulting animal will have the beak of a bird, the head of a pig, and the body of a large reptilian monkey/human.
>>
>>2023503

mostly bugs
>>
Hows the chance that there's any change whatsoever in some animal race happening in our lifetime? Like, even little stuff. I mean, there should be some sort of evolutionary process going on all the time, I think? But, eh.
I suppose that even if there were minor or major changes in an animal races that humans may see it as misfitting and that's it?
>>
>>2023694
It may happen to our species.
>>
>>2023694
all domesticated animals have evolved in our lifetime to something different from their wild predecessors.
>>
>>2023503

Small, cute and non threatening to humans and of almost no value, combined with being highly adaptable to most environments.
We kill all the mankillers and large animals because they can kill us and have a tendency to eat our livestock, or if large herbivores, eat our crops and smash up fences etc (like elephants). Large animals still hold value as trophies (mans dominance over nature). Things that are good to eat that are not farmed are being eaten to extinction, especially anything in the sea.
We breed our pets to look ever more "cute" and be ever more tame.
Animals like rats, who can cope and coexist in human territory will also fare well. Of course they are small, smart enough to eat our trash rather than focus on raiding crops etc, and are cute looking.
The days of big predator birds, mammals etc are over, unless something happens to kill off most humans.

Why would something try and take the niche of alligators and crocodiles bearing in mind that they have remained unchanged for millions of years, literally they are as perfect as it gets.
>>
>>2025031
Except a bunch of animals have done that, including mammals.
That animal has already pretty much existed, except it wasn't a cat.
>>
>>2025037
What animals? I mean sure there's a few that use water but this cat thing is using exactley the same tactics as crocodiles and alligators.

No, birds evolved in the Jurassic. Any theropods alive post KPg would not evolve into birds.

Tyrannosaurus and other BIG theropods would continue to do what they had done for millions of years. They would get bigger, their arms would get smaller, and they could possibly grow more intelligent.

The biggest and toughest Tyrannosaurus would be the ones who breed. Those ones would be to big to run down prey, and as such would have to scavenge. See pic related for a silly but likely example.
>>
>>2027498
So they would stay pretty much the same? Basically they'd already become close to the best they could be before their extinction.
>>
>>2027504
he's not actually correct.

the normal result of Cope's Rule isn't more evolution.

once an animal becomes extremely large and extremely specialized it usually becomes extinct.

If it weren't for the bolide impact T. rex would have just gone extinct for some other reason. That's just how it works. Small generalists become large specialists and then large specialists become extinct.
>>
>>2027519
And I guess T-rex' specialization would then be that it would become exclusively a scavenger because as the other anon said: they tend to get bigger and thus slower. So how would they die out? Overkill of prey? Prey dying in abundance for other reasons?

I recall seeing a documentary on the short-faced bear a while ago and it kind of became extinct this way, as it was a specialized carnivore scavenger and very big, meanwhile the grizzly was an omnivore.

Is there any other specialization other than a scavenger T-rex could become? Would its growth in size eventually spell its doom anyway?
>>
>>2027519
>>2027574
>he's not actually correct.
Evolution works so that animals that have what they need to survive and breed in an environment thrive, and those that don't die off.

Assuming nothing ate the Rex, and the Rex had plenty to eat, the physically most powerful animals ie the biggest would reproduce. Without a massive change to the environment there would be no need to radically change.

Anon-kuns question here >>2027344
was along the lines of "How would they evolve had they not died off", not how soon would they die afterwards.

>Is there any other specialization other than a scavenger T-rex could become?

If the habitat called for a different scavenger or hunter, the Rex would adapt or it would die.

There are several things guaranteed to happen in the future, thousands to millions of years ahead; all of them because of humans.

1. Animal populations will recover from the pleistocene and holocene extinctions which left the ecological niches of mega-herbivores and mega-carnivores open.

2. Invasive and introduced species will 'naturalize' to their environments due to having better adaptations than their native inhabitants. This will be especially devastating for isolated biodiverse regions such as Australia and islands such as Madagascar, New Zealand and Hawaii.

3. Animals, plants, fungi, bacteria and all branches of life will adapt to fulfil the ecological niches of anthropogenic biomes. Animals currently filling these niches are rats, cats and pigeons.

4. Introduced species (especially mammals) on remote islands will get larger or smaller in size due to the Island Rule.

5. Speculative; presuming humanity goes on to spread it's influence across much of the solar system, new extremophile forms of life will adapt to Mars, Titan and possibly multicellular life could arise on the icy moons of Jupiter (Europa, Ganymede, Callisto) as well as on Ceres and Enceladus.

Practically all of these are observable already, it's just they will intensify in the future.

Kek we be star gods n sheeit.
>>
>>2028329
By spread it's presence I mean by sending craft to other planets we're effectively contaminating them with extremophile life which has survived the cleaning process.
>>
>>2028244
>Invasive and introduced species will 'naturalize' to their environments due to having better adaptations than their native inhabitants. This will be especially devastating for isolated biodiverse regions such as Australia and islands such as Madagascar, New Zealand and Hawaii.
at least the surviving native fauna/flora will adapt to accommodate the exotics and in time will become something new, like the north and south america when eurasian carnivores were introduced
>>
>>2023509
>>2025031
This creature makes sense. Bengal tigers are already at home in the water. Maybe something happens where any source of food on land is scarce and only the best swimmers survive resulting in crocodile like big cats. Also how fucking retarded to ask "why would something try and take the niche of alligators and crocodiles" like its some kind conscious act.
>>
>>2027451

>>
Completely pointless exercise as humans will kill the planet and themselves before that has a chance to happen
>>
>>2029973
You have such high regards for our species. The planet has been through 6 or 7 mass extinctions, and half of them were worse than what we're doing now.
>>
>>2029991
he's probably right though.
would you rather watch your family starve or poach a deer?
what if it's the last deer on the planet?

we're honestly only a couple good famines away from killing every megafaunal species on the planet. Famine is of course a result of climate....
>>
>>2029994
Shut the fuck up with that shit, if the planet wasn't getting hotter it would be getting colder and everything would die anyway. This shit has happened long before us and it will happen long after us.
>>
>>2030019
>This shit has happened long before us and it will happen long after us.
of course.
this is the first time in history that we have the numbers and capability to eat every vertebrate on the face of the planet when it happens though.

and of course it's bound to happen. It's only a matter of time.

At the rate its going, Jellyfish and squid are gonna take over the ocean. Imagine an ocean ecosystem where biological niches normally occupied by fish have been moved in by different sea jellies and squids.

This is the way I see it going, if current trends continue. The wolves will be gone, as well as lions, mountain lions, tigers, etc (tigers are hanging by a thread as it is). Rats, pigeons, and cockroaches will thrive, as Urbanization expands around the globe. The lucky animals will live on as pets.
>>
>>2027498
>could possibly grow more intelligent.
Why would they need to? They were gigantic presumably mostly solitary animals who hunted huge fairly obvious prey animals.
>>
>>2027449
Not him, and I certainly don't agree with him, but there's nothing shameful about being part neandethal.

They had huge brains, great eyesight and a rubust frame. If they hadn't been a minority, they would be ruling the earth by now(and their palaeoanthropologists/paelaeontologists would tell tales of when some populations of their species supposedly mixed with sapiens sapiens).

Sure, the Mousterian neanderthals were quite primitive technology-wise(apart from their point knapping techniques, which were the best by then). For example, no needles have been found on their sites, implying that they didn't sew clothes, but merely wore tanned hides like blankets. Still, I don't think any modern human culture contemporary to the Mouserians was much more advanced.

What I'm saying is, there's nothing wrong with neanderthals.
