What is the most underrated animal, and why is it the leopard seal?

My Dad got chased by one across the sea ice when he was with the navy.

They were helping a party of scientists who had gotten into difficulty, their boat had broken down or something.
After the scientists had been brought aboard Dad and a few others on the ground were exploring and not far from the site a Leopard Seal was chilling on the Ice and Dad got a little too close. I think he was trying to take a picture or something.
It's not his first seal related incident either. When he was based in The Falklands he teased a Southern Sea Lion on a beach, I think there's a picture of it somewhere. I'll get back to you.

Do you mean "lunged at"? Because a leopard seal is incredibly slow on land and is completely incapable of chasing someone unless they are either in water, or they are a paraplegic.

They are solitary predators so what makes them so playful and inquisitive? Is it because being a top predator(aside from killer whales), they can afford to?

Never encountered a leopard, but I've been swarmed and nibbled by these guys several times. They are cute, curious, very agile, and can't get enough of my big white fins.

We had one of those come ashore at a nearby beach recently, which is odd because they don't usually come this way. It just parked its fat ass on the beach and refused to move for about six days. They set up a cordon around it to keep the sightseers from getting too close and it became something of an attraction for a while. Naturally I was one of the befuddled onlookers who showed up to gawk at it, it isn't every day you get to see an elephant seal in the wild after all. Eventually it dragged its fat ass back into the water and swam away to wherever it is that elephant seals are actually supposed to live.
