You mean why did I stop using a trip?

Honestly it was because of that picture going around with the 'trips aren't needed for this image board, but can be used for identification purposes'

That's honestly 90% of what did it. I just didn't think of it like that before, and realized it was right, and that there are plenty of other image boards for me to use a name/tripcode in if I want.

I was there when he plopped out well over a decade ago and I'll be damned if he kicks the bucket in my absence.

At least he won't outlive me and be left alone with some adopted "caretaker" who'll get annoyed when he snuggles up to the ungrateful bastard at night and won't even feed him chicken.

No shit tabby is just a pattern. I refuse to say "domestic shorthair" like a cat breed autist because everyone knows what a tabby cat is. The siamese shows in kitten's cinnamon coat and his dark points. Regardless I'm not trying to pass him off as anything more than a feral / stray rescue off the street.

The father is at least half siamese or other Asian breed; I see him roaming my neighborhood regularly and kitten was born in my back yard. Pic related is how he came to live with me.

then why did you describe your cat as a tabby mix?
>I refuse to say "domestic shorthair" like a cat breed autist because everyone knows what a tabby cat is.
You sound even more stupid calling your cat a Siamese mix.
>The siamese shows in kitten's cinnamon coat and his dark points.
Your kitten is a seal Lynx point. It is not an uncommon color pattern in domestic short/ longhairs.
>Regardless I'm not trying to pass him off as anything more than a feral / stray rescue off the street.
Except you called him a Siamese mix. You didn't introduce him as your feral/ stray rescue.

Purebred cats are only 5-10% of the cats in the US. So the chance of you finding a feral Siamese mix is extremely low. Besides that the cat looks nothing like a Siamese.

Here's my siamese/cougar hybrid. I know he's 50% cougar and 50% saimese for a fact, I bought him off craigslist and the breeder had him genetically tested. He's an outdoor cat, and we didn't neuter him so he can pass on his cool hybrid genes. We also know that vaccines cause autism, so we don't vaccinate him.
>>

>Your kitten is a seal Lynx point.

>Colorpoint Shorthairs are the first cousins of the Siamese and the Cat Fanciers' Association is the only registry that recognizes them as a standalone breed. In all other registries, they are part of the Siamese and Oriental breeds.
>they are part of the Siamese and Oriental breeds.
>>
>>2013318
I fail to see your point.
>>
>>2013322
that's because you don't understand oriental breeds or where they came from.

my point is you're an ignorant douche trying to correct others on subjects you yourself know little or nothing about.

In most countries color point shorthairs are correctly called "Siamese" or "Siamese mixes."

the pattern originates in the Siamese breed. Any color point is literally descended from a Siamese cat.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorpoint_Shorthair
>>
>>2013161

>i refuse to be correct
>my cat is not a domestic shorthair because i'm pretty sure this one cat i've seen once or twice is its father, which itself is of unknown lineage

you understand that points in cats are not by themselves markers of anything, right? there are plenty of pointed cats with no pedigree whose parents were also both cats with no pedigree.

>Regardless I'm not trying to pass him off as anything more than a feral / stray rescue off the street.

this is a disingenuous statement because while you are not trying to say your cat is pedigreed, (which would be even more retarded) you ARE trying to imply some kind of distinction between your cat and any other domestic shorthair. what you are trying to "pass off" your cat as is a "siamese-tabby cross," which we both know has no actual basis in fact.

i think you just got called out on saying something retarded and don't want to admit it.

no, you are the douche who doesn't know what he's talking about. in order for a cat to be genetically of a specified breed, it must be born to parents who are also both established, pedigreed members of a specific breed. just because a short haired cat has points does not make it a siamese or a colorpoint shorthair. in order for it to be considered a breed of anything, it must have been BRED from established bloodlines. you do not take a stray off the street and try to call it a siamese because it has points.

points may or may not have originated from siamese cats, but trying to say that your cat is a siamese because the genes for the coloration at one point came from a siamese cat would be like me trying to waltz onto an indian reservation and claim membership based on my 1/128th cherokee blood.

cats obviously have much shorter lifespans -- what you are considering a "marker" for siamese/colorpoint/whatever may have been 10, 20, who knows, maybe thirty generations in the past.

tl;dr your cat is a domestic shorthair. deal with it
>>
>>2013318
>"Point coloration in cats is a form of partial albinism resulting from a mutation in tyrosinase, an enzyme involved with melanin production. The mutated enzyme is thermolabile; it fails to work at normal body temperatures, but becomes active in cooler areas of the skin.[1] As a result, dark pigment is limited to the coldest areas of the body, that is, the extremities. Pointed kittens are born white, since the womb is uniformly warm. As the kitten ages, the cooler areas darken while warmer areas remain cream to white in color. Points are not limited to solid colors or dark colors. It is possible to have a red (orange color) or fawn (pale warm gray) point. It is also possible to have a tortoiseshell or tabby point. This coloration is also sometimes called colorpoints."

>you don't understand oriental breeds or where they came from.
Actually I do. I am a cat breeder and I happen to be interested in the Oriental group. There are five breeds in this group; the Oriental Shorthair, Oriental Longhair, Siamese, Balinese/Javanese, and the Colorpoint Shorthair. All of the breeds are structurally the same, but with different paint jobs. The Oriental Shorthair and Oriental Longhair are any color and pattern but the pointed pattern. These cats often come in colors and patterns that are not common in other breeds (like cinnamon and ticked tabby). The Siamese is a pointed breed that comes in seal, blue, lilac and chocolate. The Colorpoint Shorthair is also pointed, but not the traditional Siamese colors. A colorpoint shorthair can be any color that a Siamese is not (includes the tabby pattern and tortishell). The Balinese/Javanese has been rolled into one breed by some cat clubs, but for clarity I will describe them as two breeds. The Balinese is a long haired Siameae, and comes in the traditional Siamese colors. The Balinese is a longhair end Colorpoint Shorthair, meaning that it comes in the pointed pattern in every color but the traditional Siamese colors.

>my point is you're an ignorant douche trying to correct others on subjects you yourself know little or nothing about.
I breed and show cats. I know quite a bit about breeding and breeds.

>In most countries color point shorthairs are correctly called "Siamese" or "Siamese mixes."
They are incorrectly called that by people who assume all pointed cats are Siamese. Just because a bunch of people are wrong does not change what a Siamese is and what a pointed mutt cat is.

>the pattern originates in the Siamese breed. Any color point is literally descended from a Siamese cat.
That is so untrue it's funny. The pointed pattern is common in mutt cats all over the world.
And what about other breeds that happen to come in the pointed pattern? Are THEY all just Siamese mixes?

you can actually google this stuff yourself if you like. Then you can see for yourself if the silly stuff you believe is actually true.
>>

That's the point. I don't believe that's true. There are many breeds that can come in the pointed pattern, and the pointed pattern is common in mutt cats.
>>
>>2013899
>I don't believe that's true
well so far I've posted a link stating that all colorpoint shorthairs are Siamese mixes.

the other anon posted a link about the mechanics of point coats but didn't say anything about the origins.

It doesn't actually matter what you believe. All pointed pattern cats have Siamese ancestry, if one is inclined to believe Wikipedia over anonymous idjits on 4chan.
>>
>>2013910
Wat? You posted a link about the BREED Colorpoint Shorthair. Not the color itself. Considering there are pointed examples of breeds in no way related to the Siamese, I'm not sure where you are getting this idea from?
>>
>>2013920
>You posted a link about the BREED Colorpoint Shorthair.
according to the link it isn't a breed.
it's a mutt, any mutt with Siamese ancestry.

>there are pointed examples of breeds in no way related to the Siamese, I'm not sure where you are getting this idea from?
such as?

Wikipedia lists all breeds that come pointed and 11 of the 13 breed articles explicitly state that the point pattern comes from Siamese admixture and the other 2 don't say it doesn't.

your complaint was specifically addressed in the link I posted.

colorpoint shorthair is ANY MUTT WITH SHORT HAIR AND COLORPOINT COAT (just like the one you said isn't a Siamese mix).

It is also a Siamese mix, according to the link.

what's funny is you still haven't googled a single thing I've said because you're so insistent on being right. Face it, you're wrong, you're a douche. Nobody expects you to apologize.

No, it's your interpretation of the info in the link.

>colorpoint shorthair is ANY MUTT WITH SHORT HAIR AND COLORPOINT COAT (just like the one you said isn't a Siamese mix).

That is not what your link says.
>Colorpoint Shorthairs are the first cousins of the Siamese and the Cat Fanciers' Association is the only registry that recognizes them as a standalone breed. In all other registries, they are part of the Siamese and Oriental Breeds.

>It is also a Siamese mix, according to the link.

Again, you are very wrong.
>Two separate schools of thought exist about the Colorpoint Shorthair: those who think that since these cats are pointed like a Siamese, they should be considered Siamese, and those who deem the Colorpoint a Siamese crossbreed. In fact these cats were initially created by crossbreeding Siamese with American Shorthairs, the same crossbreeding that created the Oriental breed of cats.

No where does it say that mutt cats with the pointed pattern are Siamese.

>what's funny is you still haven't googled a single thing I've said because you're so insistent on being right.

No it does not. It explains why some cat clubs register the cats as Siamese and some do not, due to outcrossing to create the colors.

Btw; controlled, documented crosses done 40 years ago does not mean that the Colorpoint Shorthair is just a Siamese mix. It is a recognized pure breed with a standard and a dedicated club.
It is not a semi feral mutt that happens to have the pointed pattern.

I guess this is close to /cat general/

So here's my question:

I rescued a kitty from a tree a few months ago (I live in Asia) and wanted to get her spayed. I was told by the vet that she's too small and needs to get vaccinated and dewormed prior to the surgery.

They gave me some deworming stuff that comes in a needle-less syringe that I'm supposed to give orally for five days in a row. The vet didn't speak great English but seemed to say something about how it should be given on the "side" of the mouth, or else it might just go into her lungs. How do I go about this?

So this cat has been coming up to me in the mornings for the past week or so and I've been feeding her. Today I caught her and brought her inside because it's cold in my area. I took her to the vet who scanned her and said she had no microchip.

I don't mind taking in a new cat but I'm worried this cat has kittens somewhere and they're currently starving/freezing without their mom

Tl; dr how do I know if a cat recently had kittens?

this is jenny-puddles. shes probably around 7 months old. shes still really rambunctious though. she can be a little tyrant. flipping over her water bowl if her food dish is empty after eating only a couple hours ago. especially late at night.

she also likes to nibble a lot. like when im petting her head shell start to nibble and bite me between my thumb and index finger.

is this normal behavior for a young cat? ive had cats before when i lived with my parents but this is the first cat im 'raising' on my own so im not sure what normal behavior would be or if i should be worried/im doing something wrong.

shes a rescue btw. cute as a button most the time.

What the hell do I do now? The first cat sounds like an A++ baby and I've always loved Siamese, as has my dad. On the other hand, our boy just moved in, and he's everything I could have ever wanted from a cat - he's friendly, gentle, sweet, good habits well behaved, and clearly loves me as much as I love him. He's also a pretty shy boy, and obviously a beta going by how he always adopts submissive postures around me. I'd hate to bring a cat with a strong personality like a Siamese in (especially so soon after he came home himself) and potentially have her bully him. I love this cat so much and my foremost concern is his happiness. But then again, I know he's good with cats (he was living at a foster home with 7 all in the same room and they got along great), and they're close in ages and opposite sex...

In short, what do, /an/? Pic related, it's him the first time I gave him catnip.
>>
>>2016517
A strong "NO" when she bites you and stopping the petting may work. I do that when I get nipped along with pointing a finger at cat and frowning and it's always stopped that shit cold.

Also she's a lovely baby and you gave her a great name.

I've had cats my entire life and always rationed them food on a daily basis like a normal responsible owner, but I was just thinking...

What would happen if I were to just pour an entire 20LB bag of dry cat food out in the open and just allowed my cat to eat as much as she wanted and whenever she wanted? Would she engorge herself trying to eat as much as she could or would she eat her regular amount and leave it alone until later?

I'm not going to do this. It was just a random thought that popped up into my head.

depends on the cat. some would act like a dog and end up eating til they die. some owners do this when they leave for vacation though...

Some people free-feed their cats. It depends on the cat (some will overeat, some won't) as to whether or not this is really viable.

That said, even if your cat would overeat, she wouldn't eat so much she'd die or harm herself. She might eat more than normal but at some point would feel full and stop eating and come back later for more.

Keep in mind that 99% of the "Siamese" in any given shelter are actually pointed domestic shorthairs. They won't have the stereotypical Siamese personality because they aren't actually Siamese.

I got news. My friend told me that one of his old enough for adoption female kitten would be available to me soon.

Good last suggestions and tips for how to introduce my 3 years old neutered male cat for new arrival?
He has only experienced was in a leash at outside and behind the fence the neighbor's cat. He did not seem show any signs of aggression towards other cat (even tough the neighbor's cat was so angry all time), but was very curious and happy to see other cat every time. Still, I want to prepare for the worst case.

I thought at first separates the cats from each other in different rooms. The younger the cat to the bathroom side, which I put all the necessary items. I would give two to get used to each other's smells. Every now and then exchange the rooms, so they were able to find more odors and younger one explore rest of the house. This probably takes many days, but its okay because I`m free from work until the end of this month. Until both are calmed, toys and treats help assist to improve relationship between them.

Apologies for bad English....

No idea, actually. I usually just call her a tabby.
I always thought she was a short hair.
Here's another picture.

We got her from a home-run daycare center. We had this other cat that was her sister, but it was a little bitch, and it ran away, over a year ago. Bit my finger, and sent me to the hospital.

There's a cat outside where I work that won't stop meowing/yowling, it's obviously trying to get attention but it runs away when you approach it. I tried to get it to approach me for 20 minutes but I'm at work so I don't have that much time. I couldn't really tell what it wanted, didn't look hurt, and didn't look like it was starving. There is snow all over the place but it's not too cold right now. Hungry or lost maybe?
