according to his personal beliefs, plants like venus fly traps don't actually exist because plants can't detect physical contact

can you elaborate? what do you mean he thinks they don't exist? like, that they aren't actually plants or that they just plain don't exist
>>
>>2004237
They're actually fish.
Venus fly traps are closer in relation to fish than dolphins.

like according to his logic, his huge hard on for "nociception," or his general thought process that no plant can feel anything: A Venus Flytrap should not do what it does, much less exist.

He's actually pretty chill. People get mad when he proves them wrong or talks over their heads. Then the entire thread devolves into fighting against bugguy. All you guys want to do is fight with him.

Being an infuriating know it all who's not actually right all the time is not the definition of "chill" you traitor.

He has never proved anyone wrong ever. His evidence is just him saying nonsense until everyone gets fed up with him.

It's the best moment to get them. Since they are dormant now, they won't notice they are being moved around.

When I get to my computer I can elaborate a bit more on the species I keep.

Ok I'm a retard, I posted a Nepenthes, a plant that doesn't hibernate.

people just can't handle i've saved /an/ and make it inherently so much better.

>>2004238
they're actually animals, which is why they can detect physical contact. life started out as algae, meaning at it's root all animals are just plants.

>plants have nociceptors, not subjectivepainciceptors
Next thing you're gonna say is that it's perfectly fine to torture plants.
>>
>>2004420
it's not fine to torture plants, because theres obviously something wrong with someone stupid enough to try to torture a plant who can offer no visual signs of reacting. it's perfectly fine to torture an animal though because they can satisfy someone by reacting but cannot actually experience pain.
>>
>>2004421
>who can offer no visual signs of reacting
there's plenty of plants that react, but it's not going to appeal to sociopaths unless they like watching inverts take months to slowly decay.

Well anyway, I'll try to explain how to keep the species I'm familiar with:

Remember, use rain water or distilled. It should be <80 ppm.

Venus flytrap: Porbably the most famous one and the one you want. They aren't easy but also they aren't realy hard either. The key for success is the watering: They dehidrate fast, but also they rot with relative ease. Best way to water them is to leave a plate under their pots and fill it when it's the substrate it's -almost- dry. They have long deep roots and do better in large pots. You get better colors with 4-5 hours of direct sunlight, but they grow bigger traps with more sun, they can't be kept indoors or in shady places, they need full sun.
Dormancy usually goes from December to April.
Best soil is 3/4 peat moss 1/4 quartz sand (the one used for aquariums or pool filters)

Sarracenia: My favorites. These plants need a lot of full sun (minimum 5 hours). They need more water than flytraps, but also leave them to get almost dry sometimes too to prevent fungical attacks. Best soil is 2/3 peat moss and 1/3 quartz sand. They are a scalebug magnet, remember to fumigate at least once a month to prevent this. Their dormancy goes from november to march.

*The oddball: Sarracenia psittacina. This one is semiaquatic, I keep mine's pot in a larger pot with water and change it every week in summer.

Pinguicula Tina & Weser: These do well in shade, with just 2 or 3 hours of sunlight in summer and none in winter. Best substrate is sand for cats, be sure it's the one usable for gardening. Watering is like flytraps in summer but their winters must be dry. They barelly have any roots so they do better in small pots. Their dormancy goes from january to june, they turn into very small succulents.

Drosera Capensis and Spatulata: The same care than Sarracenia. Can tolerate more water and less sunlight. They reproduce like the plague.

>>2004463
Nepenthes x ventrata and sanguinea (highlanders): They need lots of humidity, a few hours of mild sunlight (from 7 to 10 am is perfect) and the watering is just like any regular houseplant, when the soil it's dry. Best soil mixture is 1/3 sphagnum peat moss, 1/3 quartz sand and 1/3 pine bark or leaves. These two species can survive mild winters in a cold greenhouse.

Well that's it, remember that I grow mine in a weather similar the carolinas and you should adapt all this to your own weather.

Also all of the soil should be replaced every two years except for the Nepenthes.

I hope this is useful to somebody.

You are obviously misinformed and your ignorance to simple observation is painful in itself.
