I can understand how bad you feel, but dogs are living creatures just like you are. You shouldn't try to live their life for them. It ran away, and that was not your fault. Your dog had a seizure and died, and that as well was not your fault. These things happen to all other creatures on this planet including humans. Bad things always happen for the good things to come. Don't hinder your growth as a person because of things that are out of your hands.

This i can have some sense of sorrow for. Its things out of your control. Try to make sure that you are the only one taking care of the dog. It seems that the people you leave your animals with tend to care very little and not know what to do when someone else's dog is having problems or takes off. They don't see it with sentimental value like you do.

Its best not to dwell on their death, rather remember the time you gave them knowing that it could never do the same for you. You gave those animals comfort and care while they were alive. At least they got to have a good experience before it died, instead of living in fear and being driven by hunger to eat other things alive. It couldn't have had a better life.

Goodluck anon. Hopefully you can get another dog and get past this.

I'm really really sorry about that OP. I actually went through something similar. My dog of thirteen years died earlier this year from a seizure as well, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. After a couple weeks of crying, I decided that the best way to honor her was to get another dog in need. The very same day I brought home a newly adopted dog, who was shy and didn't like being around people or other dogs, and being outside on the way to my home door, she fought the leash, bit me, and wriggled out of her collar and ran off. I ran after her but was nowhere near fast enough and by the time I turned the corner I saw her lying in the middle of the street in a pool of blood. I felt like a fucking piece of shit, I didn't even have her for a day and didn't get to help her like I told her I would. I cried and felt traumatized.

My intentions were good though, and so were yours. I just got another dog from the shelter and she's been a real sweetheart and after getting over her initial feeling of a new home, she follows me everywhere. All I can say is cry it out and after you feel better, you can always try to help another dog who needs it. There are many others after all.
