Of fucking course, it's part of the head petting motion anyway. When you go to pet your cat you can conveniently stop halfway for a chuckle and cat is happy bc pets

What's it like volunteering at an animal shelter? This is probably an insanely stupid move on my part but I've been trying to get a job elsewhere and getting nowhere, but I feel like I would like everything more if I just volunteered to help the dogs at my local humane society place. They're always looking for volunteers, I know.

Just curious about what it's like and what goes on. I read the duties and what their volunteers do and I am 100% sure I would enjoy doing them, even if it's cleaning up shit since that'll help the dogs. I'm...

I've been volunteering at the humane society in my area. It might be different because it's 100% volunteer run and we only keep up to 8 dogs at a time but i'll explain how it is anyway.
I love it. I work a 4 hour shift every monday and 90% of that is hanging out with the dogs. So either walking them, grooming, playing, or training. The other 10% is cleaning accidents or doing laundry. It's incredibly rewarding. I've seen some amazing transformations. We've had dogs who were scared of leashes get excited to go for walks, or dogs who were scared of humans in general rush to the front of their kennel for kisses and cuddles. The only thing that sucks is when you get attached to a particular dog and they get adopted...I know it's inevitable but it's hard. I

Pic related, one of our dogs who's having a really hard time getting adopted

how do i get my cat to stop peeing on my bed

she's like 7 or 8 and will not stop peeing on my bed

You've got no chance of breaking that habit. Your cat's too old now. It's probably a territory thing, is she sterilised? Only let the other one sleep on the bed from now on.
>>
>>2131032
yeah she's sterilized
she doesn't do it when i'm asleep is the problem, it's when i'm out, and i'm situated in a way that i can't deny her access to it so i gotta try to change her behavior
>>
>>2131033
Bedroom door closed when you're out then, anon
It's best to deny access to sleeping on the bed indefinitely. It might feel mean, but your cat is pretty retarded and won't learn at this point. My cat pissed on my brothers bed when I was younger (while he was in it), he kicked her off and we both ignored her for days. She's never done it again.

Cheetahs are a doomed species. Some event bottlenecked their population absurdly low a few millennia ago, so their genetic diversity really thinned out. As a result, all of them today are extremely inbred. The crooked tail most have is a symptom of this inbreeding, as are many other health problems. Sure, they're losing territory to human action, but they're fucked. Unsustainable. They'll just get more fucked up until the last ones starve, unable to feed themselves.

Elephant mating doesn't involve actual vaginal penetration. Female elephants just have so many outer skin folds and the male's penis doesn't go far enough to break the hymen. Just shoots a strong jet or something.

Animal planet told me this.
>>
>>2130542
Well that's definitely interesting, though I feel like it needs to be checked if it's true.

First time on this board. I need help.
I found a snake in my poll barn that didn't look like the Garter snakes I find around here. And is there a way to keep them out of the barn?

There's repellents you can buy at any home improvement store or garden center that's supposed to keep them away.

All of those repellents are crapshoots though. Good luck.
>>

How the fuck have you been running a a farm without a barn snake to begin with?
>>
>>2130433
That's a corn snake and they eat mice. If I were you, I'd leave it alone; it's free rodent control.

People are animals so there isn't one?

Just because people have "morals" doesn't mean they will die any slower from a tiger or whatever. To other animals we may as well just be slower naked monkeys to them.

Has anyone here ever owned a great dane?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a dog, and I'm a really tall guy (6'4") so it seems like a really big but gentle dog is the way I need to go.

I've read up a fair deal and the only thing that I'm worried about is how short their lives are and how much they slobber. I'm sort of obsessive about keeping a clean house, so I'd be a bit worried about all my stuff getting covered in slobber. Is it possible to train them well enough not to chew on / slobber on all your stuff?

Without having extensive knowledge about dog breeds, what I read about danes they seem perfect because of how friendly, gentle, and smart they are which seems perfect for me.

I'm curious if anyone here has any experiences though.

I would likely get one from a reputable breeder.

I've never owned a dane, but as a general rule, animals and being a neat freak with a clean house are very incompatible. They are going to make your house a mess no matter what you do. It's just part of owning an animal really.

Wonderful dogs, but be prepared for huge vet bills. Their size means double medication costs on everything.
Also, they eat and shit massive amounts (humongous shits) and ours only lived 7 years, which is average for the breed, but felt horribly short.
>>
>>2129568

I keep poking fun at my girlfriend by telling her she's going to be picking up shits that are bigger than mine.

93 KB,
So over the last three months my cat lost his appetite and gradually went from 11lbs to 4.6lbs. during this time my vet suspected that it was some sort of throat infection that was preventing him from eating. My cat in the last week began acting very lethargic and no longer had the energy to jump up onto his perch. I just got back from the vet and he diagnosed that my cat had complete renal failure and would go comatose within a week and die. I just scheduled an appointment to have my cat euthanized Thursday morning and am not sure what to expect. Do any of you have experience...

I work in a shelter and euthanize many animals, I've seen it all. So any specific questions ask away.

So first thing you will want to do is go in with the animal for euthanasia. It really does make the process easier for your animal. Don't worry about crying in front of people or whatever. They've seen it before.

As for what is next, if your animal isn't friendly be prepared to help hold the animal for sedation or see some handling that may be considered rough. For your cat, if he...

After death, the body does some last jerking around sometimes. Air being expressed from the lungs after death may look like a gasp of air. After death twitching and blinking can occur. Bowels and bladder are released. During sedation, the animal may vomit if it had recently eaten. None of it is painful, and besides the sedation vomit, all happens after the heart has stopped beating and the body begins to shut down.
