Let's talk jellyfish. Imagine you're down in the sea doing a dive, enjoying yourself and minding your own business, and you see this shit 10 metres away from you. Do you nope the fuck out?
I breed Moon Jellies for a public aquarium, they're pretty fucking interesting. It's a shame no one seems to care about them.

I do! Tell stories! Describe them, and your job.

storytime or riot
You're filthy, /an/. Everyone take a bath.
You may have a point there.
Nearly all the ants you see in the wild are female. Males ants, or drones, don't do any work in the colony, they dont look like other ants, and live only for a few months during the nuptial flight seasons. Their one job is to fertilize a princess, after which they die, leaving our strange world and their colony who's other gender lives a long 30 years working for the colony. Can it be said that the Drones are of this world, when they become and disappear from this life with such speed?
>Can it be said that the Drones are of this world, when they become and disappear from this life with such speed?
Uhh, yeah, I'm pretty sure they're of this world in the same way other arthropods are. Most species of tarantulas have a similar thing where females easily live 10-20+ years more than the male. This is because male tarantulas have to abandon their sit and wait lifestyle to go out and find female burrows. This requires their metabolism to go into overdrive so most males die a year or two after maturing. Captive males...

Sorry, nope. The noble male ants are nomads, visitors that stay for far less than a year and leave their bodies for eternity.

You must be high on some good shit, my friend.
hey /an/ I trust you niggas you seem to know what your talking about. My gf's aunt wants to give her a ferret. I hear they are really shitty pets.Thank you for your help, Im new here so im sorry if this is what you guys consider a shit thread
>>2023121
personally I love them, they're freaking amazing.
not the easiest animals in the world, but really cool pets. You'll get hours of entertainment watching it play.
whoops, meant to ask if they are shitty
>>2023128
They're not shitty, but very expensive and time consuming.
You need at least two, they require very specialized diets and exotic animal vets.
Just got a new cat, haven't owned a cat since I was a kid.
Any pro tips? I've heard from all my friends to separate food/water from the litter box which I've done. She's also got her shots/fixed as well.
Right now she's hiding under the couch, I figure I'd just leave her alone and let her adjust.
Clean litter box once a day. Never have an exception.
if you believe smell is a problem, buy something called NODOR, spray directly on litter inside box. Works like magic.
leave the cat alone until she approaches you. Pet her when this happens. Sit next to her for the first few times she goes to eat.
Good luck and enjoy your kitty

Thanks man
Enjoy you new life companion, you seem to be doing great so far! Make sure to give her lots of stimulus, and if she doesn't play with one kind of toy, experiment with others. My cat won't touch dingle balls and similar, but anything with feathers gets destroyed. Laser pointer seems like a win for lots of cats too
Hi /an/,
What the fuck is this?

Looks like sundried apple. A tasty low GI snack for people who are watching their weight.
Should I adopt this guy?
It depends on many factors.
What are your pros and cons?
>>2022158
>Heres a picture of an animal i'd like to adopt. I am giving you no information about the animal or me and I want my decision based entirely off how cute it is!
No. you shouldn't.
Tell me about very deep freshwater ecosystems.
There are rivers and lakes which are hundreds or even thousands meters deep, surely some interesting stuff happens there?
>>2020843
>mfw we'll never get some good footage of the amazonian deeps because of the murky water
Sounds interesting. I don't think the hot seeps and vents of the abyssal ocean occur often enough in fresh water for there to be life in the freshwater depths that doesn't depend on raining detritus.
But I don't know anything.

Perhaps you would find fish like picrel, Orthosternarchus tamandua. This one lives usually 6-10 m below the surface, but due to murkiness it's so dark in here that the environment is basically the same one as in the deep water.
By far my favourite insects (and favourite animal overall). They're like elegant alien warriors. I can only find green and brown kinds where I live but there are so many incredible varieties. Post pics if you have them.
Bees. Post bees. Post your hives. Post anything about bees.
NO WASPS ALLOWED
I'd really like to keep bees, but I have no prior knowledge or experience. What should I do?
Hello fellow bees. Oh boy, do I like making honey! Buzz buzz buzz.
>>2012292
The best thing to do is contact your nearest bee-keeper. If they can't personally set you up with a box and a queen/starter colony I'm sure they could put you in contact with someone who could.
My Dad is an apiarist and he get's a couple people every week who drive ~4 hours out to his farm (in Australia FYI) to do this. I think he only charges ~$100 or so for a fresh colony with the box.
The colony grows exponentially so it's useful to him to keep them from swarming by artificially...

I want to make Sea Fritters/ Seaweed Puffs like I had once in Naples, but all the recipes I can find do not specify what kind of seaweed they use.
I hope I can find it in an Asian grocery.
Can anyone tell what it is?
another pic
>>2023005
looks like sea lettuce, Ulva.
it took me 1 second to find the answer on google with the most obvious search term.
Is frog a good pet?
Not really, some are interesting to watch, some are rocks with mouths, but in general they shouldn't be handled more than necessary, they are not interactive not affectionate pets.
>>2022901
Depends on what you want. If you want to train an animal for agility courses, no, it isn't a good pet. This is too vague a question.
>>2022901
they have some neat behaviours and are pretty to look at. can be fairly easy to care for, depending on species. just depends what you are looking for.
whites tree frogs, pic related, are probably the best combination of activity level, moderate size, and ability to tolerate occasional brief handling.
There are frogs that are small and very active but cannot be handled. There are frogs that are huge and mostly sit perfectly still for days at a time. Some have very fussy care requirements. Broad range of froge.
My parakeet of 5 years named Banana died last night, make me feel better with a bird thread?

sorry about the loss anon. :(
>tfw the last of your species

>>2022214
Females already don't return my mating calls
>>2022271
Don't use a mating call. Just mate.

Anyone here have experience owning seahorses?
Any advice?
No, but I heard that you have to be very careful with the decor, since they can easily injure themselves with sharp edges.
Also they can only be kept with slugs or other seahorses.
>>2021853
Yeah I've read the same. I don't plan on getting some anytime soon but I've always liked them and would be interested in owning a herd one day when I have enough time and money
I am a professional aquarist and one of my clients has a seahorse tank, as far as water quality goes they are pretty easy to maintain as far as marine aquariums are concerned, however you need to have minimal water flow (need to under stock the aquarium, so their shit doesn't poison them), "perches" for them to grasp onto, you can only keep other seahorses and pipe fish as anything else will out compete them for food and you need yo be able to culture brine shrimp and mysis shrimp to feed them daily. My advice: hire a pro to maintain them for you or don't...
