How come whenever I look up baby pigs, I always get pics/videos of these dumb micro pigs and not normal farm pigs? These micro pigs aren't nearly as cute as "normal" piglets and I don't get why they're so widespread.

Okay /an/ I just got a new job as dog handler/trainer/babysitter. I'm on my sixth day today and this job is trying my patience. At any given time I have 15 dogs (yesterday upwards of 25) in a pack setting.
Does anyone have advice on how to be a better trainer/handler? I find I lose my patience easily, especially when it comes to the smaller dogs picking on the larger dogs, and then having to stop the larger dogs from stomping wee lil dachshunds into jelly.

Any advice for a starter dog trainer/handler?
I worked in a kennel setting previously, and as is common...

I don't know where you work, but every "doggie daycare" I've ever been in has separated dogs by size first, and then activity level. So you'd have a small dog yard, and then maybe a high energy big dog yard and a lower energy big dog yard. Is your place of employment just letting the chihuahuas mingle with the mastiffs?
>>
sounds like a shitstorm and a liability
>>

First, recommend separting large and smalls. Some large dogs play well, but otherwise it is just a liability.
We use a plastic cricket bat with a bit of gravel in it to distract and scare off dogs when they're getting too rowdy.
Have a smaller pen you can separate a specific butthead into so the rest of the group can get a break.
But yeah, that job is always going to be like watching a herd of toddlers. Is called daycare for a reason.

Quick question about Bird Keepers Lung.
How hard is it to prevent? I plan on keeping a budgie in my 6x10 study, would buying an air filter and cleaning out the feces before I sleep in there give any significant upsides?
Should add that its actually bigger than 6x10 and that's an estimate.

My Bolognese is making strange little gurgling sounds in her throat and sticking her tongue out at a certain pace. It seems like hiccups, but I want to be sure. She ate some peanut butter and a tiny piece of a treat and swallowed both without a problem, but she won't drink water, won't do even simple tricks for more treats, and is currently just lying down in a corner (she was sitting all hunched up before).

It's a little late so no vets are open right now. /an/ advice?

Where can I buy female Dumbo rats in southeastern Michigan? I've tried 7 pet stores. Only one of which had rats, and the rats were regular males. I just want female dumbos!

Best thing to do is find a breeder listing. Google local rat clubs, they usually have a list of ratteries available.
>>

Even OP's pic is a demonstration of standard ear rats triumphing over their defective dumbo brethren.

...but seriously OP, I know I've heard of Michigan ratteries. Cursory googling reveals a Goosemoose thread made in 2012 where OP asked about the same thing, so check if any of those are nearby to you and/or still operating.

After switching my pupper from science diet (long story) to taste of the wild, he's started eating poop. He's never eaten poop up until this point. He's 8 months old now, close to 9, and I've had him since he was 3 months old.

He's not bored, he wasn't raised in poor conditions that forced him to eat poop, he's not sick, and he's only eating OTHER dogs' poop, so I assume there must be a nutritional deficiency somewhere, or perhaps he's inclined to eat the poop of dogs that aren't being fed grain-free?

How do I fix this?

pay attention to where your dog walks. if you see him going for poop, pull him away and don't let him get near it. tell him 'no' or 'leave it' if he goes for the poop.

it might just be a phase he's going through. talk to your vet about a nutritional deficiency.

Hey /an/,

My family recent just adopted this girl from a local rescue, and she's having a tough time adjusting.

Near as we can tell, she's about 4 years old, miniature schnauzer, was in the shelter for 2 years. The problem is that while she seems very friendly, and is very lovey, for the last several nights while they're trying to lie down to sleep, she's suddenly freaked out and snapped at my parents. Tonight, it was hard enough to make my mom bleed.

I know my mother is taking it really hard, because we've recently lost 2 other...

Pick up a book on dog body language, watch some YouTube vids on positive training, try to observe when she begins to get agitated and try figure out why she's feeling that way, and maybe try crating her at night. Proper ways to crate train can be googled and should be a positive, safe place for her to go.

Also give her a good month or so to adjust yo a new environment.
>>
>>2020748
The thing is she's asleep when she freaks out. I dont know if dogs dream or have nightmares, but that's certainly what it feels like. Will look into the training vids though, thanks!
>>
>>2020761
Dogs can certainly have varying levels of dreams and actions during dreams, in which case that doesn't sound so much like something that you could train out. Someone could be bumping her in her sleep, she gets irritated, then bites.

It never hurts to do the above suggestions, but it might be more practical to simply give her her own bed to sleep in on the ground.

Don't worry, it's the same for normal frogs.

Not deformed but i did have a giant leopard gecko. He was 135 grams and 11.5 inches long from nose to tail (75g and 9 inches is about adult male average). The reptile shop i got him from as a baby did not know his genetics. He was just listed as a normal.

Unfortunately he died suddenly at only 2 years of age. Liver or kidney failure is believed to be the cause, probably congenital. RIP Leto.

Hi /an/, could you help me identify a bird call?

The song I'm interested in can be heard faintly in the background of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czvVd71tDQM, specifically between 0:05 - 0:09, 0:18 - 0:22, and 0:35 - 0:39. It's the one that sort of sounds like hoo HOO hoo, hoo, hoo. I've looked through several youtube clips of owls but I haven't been able to match it yet.

So i felt really bad about a lot of animals because human beings tread them and nature like shit. I felt so bad to the point that i'm now in a psychiatric clinic.
My psychologist said instead of complaining i should do something about animal abuse etc.
What can i do? Are there any clubs or something i can join like peta?
I would really like to help so please tell me what i can do

Probably do work at the ASPCA or local shelter groups. Don't do anything that involves PETA. If you have the resources, adopt an animal. Tbh senpai, if something like that is putting you in the psych clinic, you probably have am underlying problem that has nothing to do with animals.

god damn, meta memes are one of the few reasons i still come to 4chan.

also, hell yea nigga you can volunteer anywhere doing almost anything. h/o lemme grab this site for you real quick.

https://www.volunteermatch.org/

there ya go, you can look for shelters that need help (ie all of them) and you might even be lucky and live in an area where you can narrow results down to something specific to what you're asking for.

good luck mayne. ;^)

I don't know. I'm curious as to what happened, though. Did he actually bite her? Was he still hostile towards her afterwards? Was he a fighting breed?

Also, this seems like a pretty good time to feel sad, so don't try to stop it.
