Hey, /an/. A couple of hours ago, my dog snatched 1-2 cookies from the counter, and since then she's been really hyper and is breathing very heavily. No puking or anything like that, but I'm still worried.
The chocolate in the cookies was a ghiradelli, 70% dark chocolate baking bar. The whole bar was cut into the mix but there was only a bit in each cookie.
How worried should I be? Sorry, I know this isn't a vet but I'm just worried and I thought I would check before I tried finding a vet open this late on Christmas.

Those are two symptoms that do indeed show when a dog has consumed chocolate.
Baking chocolate is one of the chocolates with the highest amounts of theobromine in it, which is what's poisonous to doggies.
Induce vomiting as much as you can, try to get him to drink water.
Here's a calculator on this website to help see what the severity is:

Sorry OP, Merry Christmas.
Got a 55 gallon bowfront for christmas, tell me what fish i should get.
currently have a:
>6 inch common pleco
>8 inch dragon eel
>4 inch crucian carp
>4 inch moonlight gourami
>3 inch kribensis
Planning to get either a fire eel or black ghost knife.
Nothing, because you already have too many fish in there. Or at least you will soon once they grow some more.
In any case definitely not a fire eel, they get enormous.
Get another kribensis.

Entomologist here, it is a moth. Where are you located, as that can narrow the field quite a bit and I could tell you the species.

Nevermind, I got it, it's an Oleander Moth (Syntomaida epilais). Lovely moth.
Post some pictures of cute birds. Here, you can have this one for free.

>trying to keep harmless house spiders out of your house
Have fun living in a sterile bunker devoid of all life.
You will never get rid of them completely. Not unless you fumigate the shit out of the whole house.
They will helpfully take care of most other household insects for you though so there's really no reason to remove them.
My fiancee is interested in herbalism as a hobby, as well as learning about local plants in general. I'm thinking about getting her gifts related to these interests.
Does anyone know of a good intro book to herbalism (preferably one with a somewhat scientific rather than new age bent) or resources for learning about local flora? We live in Kentucky if that makes a difference.
If she's serious, then bottles and jars are really nice. Maybe some bottles of everclear.
This guy has good books

You mean pigeons aka city chickens to the homeless.
Can anyone explain to me how guide dogs work? I know that dogs are smart etc... but the concept of a dog able to help a lonely blind man in his daily issues really blows my mind.
I mean, if I tell the dog "Supermarket" he will take me there?
I know i might sound stupid but I really know nothing about this argument.
Kind of yes and no, the dog couldn't take their owner to a location unless they had been trained specifically to go to that place- they have no concept of what makes a supermarket or a chemist or whatever, and they're obviously incapable of understand street signs and signs on shop fronts. Once they've learned where a particular location is, they can take their owner directly there on command, but they can't find their way to new or unfamiliar places, the owner needs to give the dog directions and the dog then assesses whether it's safe to go that way.
So...

I'm going through a pretty depressing moment right now. Two babies were rejected by my diamond finches and I caught them trying to kill them. I had to sacrifice one of them because it had a very serious wound that he was not going to survive And now I have one baby left. I've set up a clean cotton nest with a heat source but I have no idea how to feed him. Please help me, /an/, google doesn't help
For right now it probably couldn't hurt to give him generic baby bird food like pic related. How old is the little guy?
Also for the future, I was told by a finch keeper to raise Society finches alongside any other finches you're breeding because Societies will raise any rejected babies of another species as their own. Now I don't know how true that is as I haven't bred finches of my own yet, but hopefully another finch breeder can say for sure.
give him your nippy

I've given him oatmeal with water (dusted, of course) and he seems to be eating now, I'll buy this once the stores open. Also I can't put this little guy with anyone other than their parents, who have rejected these 2 and 2 other eggs that were yet to hatch (they layed 4), even if I made sure not to intervene with the nests as to not disturb the parents. Thank you for your advice.
Also, little correction, they're not diamond finches, they're zebra finches, they're just called diamonds...

Hey /an/
I'm about to move out of the house I share with an acquaintance, he's the landlord, and move into a new place. When I moved in he had a feral cat living outside that he would feed. However, once I moved in he stopped feeding it, and the cat began to get thinner and thinner. Eventually I took pity on it, and began buying food. This guy would occasionally feed the cat with the food that I bought, and when we ran out after about the 3rd time I asked him to get the next package. He refused, and said that he was going out of town and that he is just gonna...

Plead ignorance, he doesn't give a shit and it's legally no ones cat.
Take it and get it microchipped and round of shots so it doesn't spread any diseases to any other cats that may be around the new place.
Which is the best odor controlling litter out there? I'm having guests coming in to stay and I need the odor control. Money is not a problem.
Try this I heard it works well. Tidy Cats ordor control. Mulicats

I use Swheat Scoop and it works great. If you scoop daily it doesn't really matter though.
I asked this here before and someone told me to buy Fresh Step Extreme.Tried it out and have never used anything else since.
