Went out today and bought a Campbell's Dwarf Hamster (aka Russian Dwarf Hamster).
The little guy seems tame as anything, he's only young(ish) and was bought from a commercial pet store.
I've read online that you should be quiet and leave the guy alone for a day until he settles in, but from the word go he was running around his cage, peering out at us, really doesn't seem timid or shy at all.
My big worry is him getting wet tail or something if we handle him too soon, a few members of the family are just peering and watching,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2024742 Just give him a couple hours, he'll most likely be fine if he isn't too stressed out. Pet store hamster temperaments vary so greatly that you really don't know how they're gonna react. Can I ask what you're keeping him in and what size wheel he has? Just checking, since maybe only 10-20% of hamsters are in appropriately sized cages.
>>2024745 It's a two storey plastic tank/ cage combo (50/50 transparent plastic and metal grill), total floor (ground and first floors) space I'd say is about 3-4 sq. ft. (4000 cm sq.) which I've read should be enough?
The wheel is around 15cm diameter (6"), by the looks of it he can run just fine without arching his back any.
At the minute he's just sleeping and occasionally rooting around finding more paper for his nest and drinking water, he seems pretty content, fed him a little bit... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2024750 Yep, that's more than enough. Good job OP. Just give him a few hours; he sounds like he'll be fine if you handle him then. If you're still concerned about it, maybe let him crawl into his hand on your own if he's willing.
My cat started acting like crazy out of nowhere. He was shaking and running away from people. He won't let me grab him. He is now hiding under a bed and extremely alert, doing owl-like movements with his head. It came literally out of nowhere he was perfectly fine and then started acting like that.
No vet works today so I don't know what to do, help pls.
>>2027592 He was with me the whole time when this happened. I think it may be kidneys again. He was peeing blood a couple months ago and almost died according to the vet. That time he was extremely sluggish though, now it's the opposite. He is not peeing blood now but it's doing a weird "high pressure" noise.
Hopefully he'll be okay until I can take him to the vet the day after tomorrow.
My cat is in so much pain. I can tell he has major dental issues, but when I looked up the prices I almost cried. I can't afford it and the cat is mine now and my parents can't just shell out money for my animal. He is about 8 1/2 years old and still has so much life left.
I can't use care credit, I don't have a credit card yet (I'm a poor 19 year old college student). I don't know what to do.
He pees outside his litterbox if there is so much as a dryer sheet on the floor, he cries constantly, and shakes his mouth over and over and... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
You don't have to necessarily use care credit. There are vets that offer a payment plan. How bad is your kitty's mouth? I'd had two of my chihuahuas baby teeth removed when he got fixed and my Dobie had one of hers pulled after she broke it. The dobies was maybe $200 if I remember right. Do you have a job as well, or are you just a student?
>>2028029 I quit my last job due to horrible scheduling and not letting me go on a vacation I had planned for a while. So now I am looking. How long do you think I should wait after I start saving to get him done? Is waiting till the summer too long?
Hey guys, I uh, I don't know if this is the place to ask, but what is the healthiest senior cat food I can get for my pic related. She has all her teeth and is pretty healthy, lately I've been supplementing her dry food with wet food, specifically that expensive as shit Purina Pro-Plan grain free stuff. I'm looking at dry food brands right now and kinda want to go with a grain free option that mostly meat proteins and fats. What should I consider trying?
She's adorable and thank you for taking good care of your kitty!
Unfortunately I don't know much about cat nutrition except that higher protein/fat content is better, with as much meat and as little filler (grains and starches) as possible; also supplementing some wet food as well is good just for the extra moisture to make sure she gets enough water.
>>2027880 If they're intact (they shouldn't be) they might just be horny, But it's probably dominance. Animals are too dumb to understand anything but hormones and even if they did actually fuck eachother, what wouldn't they fuck if it smelled nice? they don't care.
Vegan diets are doable for dogs. Not as good as a non vegan one though, but they can live. Still is a stupid idea though. If you're vegan and want a pet get a rabbit or horse or goat or whatever instead of being stupid.
