Why do you support or why are you against zoos?
I've only heard a few things about the issues but this is what little i've picked up.
pros
>research
>prevent extinction
dunno what kind of research tho
cons
>animal rights
>been in captivity for too long to be released back into the wild
I'm interested in knowing more about the issue
Do your own homework
As you said, there are pros and cons. Zoos can also are also great for children, but you could say that it might be smarter to take your kids to birdwatch or something if you want spark their interest in nature.

>>animal rights
surely you mean animal welfare? the animal rights groups are usually idiots who anthropomorphise too hard. animal welfare would make more sense as it can be hard to ensure freedom to express natural behaviours is followed, especially with captive wild animals.
>>been in captivity for too long to be released back into the wild
it's usually the offspring of zoo stock who are rehabbed for release in the wild
What jobs can I do to help animals /an/? I feel like I have awoken after my dog got cancer and had to be put down, she died in my arms in the most humane way possible. Now I think of all the animals out there who need help. Recently turned vegetarian and aiming to go full vegan too
Any career ideas of what I can do to help? I am aiming to go on to Universty but in the mean time I've got an application to work in a kennel/cattery, hope I get it
Learning a new language could probably help you help animals in foreign countries somehow.
"Recently turned vegetarian and aiming to go full vegan too"
I have the answer for you, professional retard.

I have a 1 1/2 year old full blood dobie.
Active. Hyper. Male. Weighs 105 lbs. Seems very healthy and is always happy.
One huge problem...
Occasionally has horrible diarrhea about 1-2 days per week. People food seems to cause immediate effect, and will cause squirts.
Again..he's never sick acting. Has no pains. And isn't losing weight. Last vet did a stool sample (4 mths ago) and said he saw no problem.
We're taking him again this week, because it almost looks like blood mixed in with the watery mucous. The smell is the most awful thing on earth.
No...

So, you're saying people food causes it? Then, stop feeding people food.

No. I said it causes an immediate effect.
Not that its the only cause. It happens even sans people food.
Sorry. I wasn't clear m8.
As a fisherman and unifag going to school to become a fishery biologist, it pisses me off how many major media outlets (most notably the shithole known as "The Guardian") continues to spread lies about the status of fish stocks, sustainable fisheries, along with many other "enviro-myths" (like the Pacific Garbage Patch). I can't be the only one who notices how alarmist the media gets about these kinds of things. I always thought Fox News was an extremely alarmist media outlet (mostly about terrorism), but...god damn The Guardian's pseudoscientific...

Shill? How? Who am I trying to support in this situation? I'm just giving an opinion.
The garbage patch is a myth? Source?
Anyway, who even cares OP? Like even if what you said is true, its probably much better to have the general public be concerned with overfishing than them not giving a shit.
>Koko
Why is she given kittens and not the opportunity to raise her own gorilla babies?
Seems like the ultimate pay-off of the project would be to see if Koko could pass on her sign language to the offsprings, but instead all progress will die with her
Stupid-ass scientists keeping the gorillas down
>>2080078
Those people working with them do tend to be a bit sketchy. I can't trust them fully. It's a pity, because I would love to.
According to reliable sources (such as The X-Files), mating gorillas in captivity is a lot more complicated and difficult than you would think
>>2080079
This. Even though I'm convinced that all great apes are essentially similar to us, those working with Koko seem to be anthroporphising her quite a bit, at least when approach the public. Especially when they claim that she got sad from watching some old movie.
Still, she seems like a pretty cool girl.
>tfw no qt gorilla to tickle and playfight with
I got her over a year ago from a kennel. Said she was a shiba inu mix but I don't think so. Anyone seen this breed before?

My mum's friend hit my dog very hard twice tonight to discipline her despite being told repeatedly we do not hit animals in our house. My dog is 4 months old.
>>2075842
>Four months
What a fucking lunatic. Hitting any dog for punishment is useless, but that can induce deep-set antisocial tendencies for young dogs.
>>2075842
Dogs have denser bones than humans so hitting them doesnt really do much.

I have a one year old bedlington whippet that I adopted from my neighbour.
She was fed one small cup of biscuits per day, kept out in the garden, frequently threatened and intimidated and deprived of contact. When she first arrived, she had bladder control issues due to anxiety.
Looks like some kind of larvae.
Found a few of these in the past few months, one in a box I had under my bed, a hollowed out shell of one, and now this one just chilling on my wall.
Should I be worried?

I hope someone does the same thing to every illiterate imbecil out there, such as yourself. It would make this world a better place.
p.s. Doggie looks like a proper pal, sorry to hear that.
I just adopted this dog yesterday afternoon and despite taking her out to the bathroom like 12 times in the course of time she still has not peed or pooed and I gave her as much water as she wants and fed her last night.. last night I gated her in the kitchen and this morning there's no sign of poop or pee, took her out and she still do don't want to do anything. she's been recently spayed and judging by her teeth probably a year old.. she's a good girl so far never pulls on the leash and she's very submissive. I think she's a black German shepherd mix
so is this normal for them not to pee? it's been like 19 hours
if you can't afford to go to the vet you can't afford a dog
give her back to the shelter or wherever you got her so she can be rehomed with someone who can take care of a dog
>>2080124
she came with a free vet visit.... so what your saying is I should take her to the vet? she's just sleeping next to the bed right now I'm watching her all the time to make sure she doesint pee. I just want her to do it outside. I've just never had a dog that held it in for so damn long
I just got news that she was hit
I don't even know how to react
I'm at college so I didn't even get to bury my dog
I don't ever want to own or see another pet again I wish I had gone home sooner. She was perfect.
This is a pretty old photo right after she had her puppies. We kept them but they suck compared to lola
She has a flat face. But I'm sorry to hear.
