Hey /an/, what's a great first time aquarium setup? Nothing too big, something you could fit on a large desk or something similar. I'd like to get shrimp, but I know you'll tell me those aren't for beginners.

Pic related will probably be me

Any input is much appreciated

>This is now the aquarium general

good because I have a dumb question for it

Are gallons in a fishtank 1:1? Because I just calculated my Pentagon tank(found in the trash) at 49.9 gallons but actually physically adding water from a milk jug brought it to around 80 gallons
>>
>>2085171
get a 20-30 gallon or something cheap off of Craigslist. You dont need to overthink it

Never posted on this board before, are greentext stories acceptable?

>be me
>taking dog out for evening walk
>notice he picked something up and is chewing on it
>thinking it's a chicken bone or something dig around in his mouth to take it out
>it's squishy and definitely not a chicken bone
>mfw it's a peice of shit
>mfw it's all over my hand now and all over his muzzle
>spend 20 minutes at home cleaning his face off and he still smells like shit
>spend 20 minutes scrubbing my hand and it still smells like shit
>mfw I'm sitting here typing this out and can't stop smelling my hand

So I guess it's a thread on moments where you question why you ever got your pet

I know your pain. Had to take care of my stepfather's English Bulldog whenever he went out on walks. Using the "Plastic bag around the hand" trick is effective, but you never, EVER, feel clean.

Both of them are dead now and I"ve got a Yorkie that hardly poops or pees. God bless this rat of a doge.

Not really "strange" or "unique" but somewhere along the years I fell into the habit of calling every horse I work with "bronco" regardless of how tame they are. I often find myself saying things like "C'mon bronco, let's get to work" as I'm leading them to the arena to ride, etc.

211 KB,
Any experienced tarantula owners? Looking to be a first time owner but I have a couple questions I cannot find clear answers on. The foremeost being temperature to keep it at. I keep seeing most like it between 70-80. I do not plan on having a tarantula room and my house is normally between 65-70. Is it okay to keep at that temperature? If not, what can I do to ensure proper heat?

Aside from a few species, those temps are rough guidelines. If your house is in the 70s during the day and mids 60s at night, it's fine. They'll just grow slower. You can place them next to your computer tower if you have a desktop or rig up an ambient heating system using an UTH, heat lamp that's not direct on the containers at all or a space heater to keep them warmer. Increasing the air temperature in the general area is key, not the substrate or the enclosure.

Poecilotheria subfusca likes it cooler though if you wanna dance with the devil in the pale moonlight.

8 KB,
The North American House Hippo is a creature that can be found throughout Canada and the Eastern United States. The House Hippo is a very timid creature and is rarely seen, but they will defend their territory if provoked. They come out at night to search for food, water, and materials for their nests. The favourite foods of the House Hippo are chips, raisins and the crumbs from peanut butter on toast. They build their nests in bedroom closets using lost mittens, dryer lint and bits of string. The nests have to be very soft and warm; House Hippos sleep about 16 hours a day.

2 MB,
So this cat in our neighborhood took a liking to us. Kinda just followed me up the stairs and into my apartment one day and now he just comes and goes as he pleases. Really sweet guy, loves to be cuddled and petted and will absolutely crawl into bed with you. In fact, I'm certain that somebody abandoned him.

So one day I notice he has a limp. I look at his leg and it's got a few puncture wounds in it. Two of them are close together, and one of them is towards the back of the same leg. I washed his wounds as best I could, and let him stay in the house for a couple...

OP pic is just behind his front left paw, if it's hard to tell. This next pic show's another wound on the same leg, but a little further round.

Disinfect and bandage it, he'll probably be fine. Also, keep your cat inside. That solid lump is probably a cyst of some sort, though.
>>
>>2087267
I can't keep him inside indefinitely. I have another cat and they don't really get along. They're fine most of the time, but sometimes my indoor cat will chase him around. I keep his claws trimmed though, so I don't think he did this to the stray. I mean the wounds don't even look like defensive wounds.

And even if they did get along, the stray doesn't like shitting or pissing indoors. Even with his own litter box, he'd rather do his business outside.

The cyst or abscess...

Some one post the greentext about exactly this

It probably comes down to the size of the cat and how aggressive it is with prey. A 15lb+ tom could probably kill a goose, I imagine it would come out of it a little worse for wear though.
