Hi /adv/

I just want some reassurance that I am doing the right thing.
My boyfriend has a pre existing porn addiction, as well as being selfish and inconsiderate, which I found came hand in hand with the addiction. He felt very entitled to his immediate desires and it was a constant uphill battle that made its way into our everyday life.

So today, I broke it off and told him although I still loved him, I couldn't stay in the relationship because it was taking a huge hit to my self esteem. He never wants to have sex (we average twice a month because I ask him for it and he can see I am sexually frustrated) And when we do have sex, it's not passionate or 'connected'. It feels like he is emulating a porn scene rather than being pleasured by the moment.
I have urged him to seek professional help for this because he also wants to stop and it's not enjoyable for him at all.
If he was happily fapping to porn and still maintained a decent sex life, or even a decently productive life outside of work, I would obviously have no issues, but this isn't the case; I have to hold his hand through every step of life, even to the point of reminding him to bathe and I started to feel more like a carer, rather than a girlfriend.

The conflict is that when does go through periods without porn, he is the best boyfriend I could ever ask for, but that is only when he is off the porn.

Have I done the right thing despite still loving him?

Yes.

So, if you ignore his faults, he's the ideal boyfriend? Wow!

For one thing, you are projecting an image of the hypersexualized male. Every man cannot be held to the standard of adonis. Men are supposed to be sexual on call, which really screws with self esteem. You have to understand that is OK for your boyfriend to say no.

A lot of men watch pornography because it depicts a situation in which they are in control. It is not enough that you are a female. Male sexuality plays off of passive and active roles. But he's not going to be active if you demean him. Certainly he is not going to feel in control. Maybe next time, instead of calling him a pervert for looking at pornos, you should whisper into his ear, "I want you to fuck me like that." Bite him a little so he understands that you very much deserve what's coming.

If you want a man whose sole duty is to fuck you, then you are better off becoming friends with benefits to some random fuckboy than getting into a real relationship. Men are not penis robots, learn some common sense.

Don't think they did. Op move on and forget this guy.

Yup. It's probably the best thing for the of you.

You get to leave with your self-esteem intact and find someone who can make you happy.

And he either gets the wake-up call he needs to get his shit together, or he gets to skip out of the guilt and self-loathing he'd probably feel when he'd inevitably bring you down and treat you like trash.

It might suck now, but in the long run, it's for the best.

This.

Op you have done the right thing. You'll wonder what you were thinking being with him when you get your next decent boyfriend.

certainly could do this, and become a dom.

Often the best time to break it off is when you still love someone, even though it hurts. Over time you will grow to resent him. Let him go, or try to. It will be hard for a while.
