Women: What's your take on the current direction of feminism as it pertains to social justice?

I'm asking from the perspective of a guy who spent the past 6 years trying to be supportive, only to see the groups I was involved with run around in circles ad nauseum without a clear game plan.

Towards the end I could not even speak or offer input without being swarmed by the more vocal members for being a cishet guy whose opinion did not matter because of my privilege, even in cases where nothing was being accomplished otherwise.

I gave up and stopped trying to help, but now the mentalities I saw grow are showing up more and more in my daily life. I see the outrage grow, but there are still no solutions being offered, nothing to get behind.

I want to know if there's still anything of value there that's worth caring about.

I think there are a lot of more feminist extremists around now who are ruining the cause for the rest of us. There are obvious inequalities between men and women within society which need to be addressed, but the whole idea of feminism is to reach a state of equality, not to surpass men and have an advantage over them in every area.

Yeah, I saw that a lot too.

The first couple years I was involved in the movement were great because people talked to each other and listened. People actually supported me when I spoke up with my thoughts and we discussed them. Sometimes I was wrong and learned a thing or two about what women go through, sometimes I was right and women used it to find balance in their own arguments.

But things just started getting more and more evangelical and soon there was only one voice.

Once you accept that you aren't going to form your own family anymore, how do you fill the void left behind? I was thinking of taking a more active role in taking care grandma or something.

Currently, the whole feminist idea of gender is getting on my nerves. When I was young, we were taught that as women we could do anything, even though we are women. But, now, if you show masculine traits, they label you are demi-boy or nonbinary or some form of trans.

Also, I love the consent revolution, but it is out of control. People are claiming rape, a very serious crime, because they were quiet about not wanting sex. Nonverbal consent is a thing. If you don't say no, then how is anyone suppose to know? Or the girls who get drunk and claim rape but the guy was drunk as well, so no one was technically able to consent.

Feminists who say they hate all men and justify it with experiences are still bigotted people. Feminisms who hate on "cishets" or whatever are still terrible people.

My question -

I am a very understanding and forgiving individual. I try and look at the reasons behind why somebody does something, rather than gain vindication through being angry at them. I don't see the point in arguing.

There are a couple of things my current partner has done that most people would probably consider to be slightly inappropriate (not relationship ending) that I have simply overlooked. I do this because I don't want them to feel bad. The things they have done have been simple mistakes, a slip of the tongue or just a result of how they are as a person.

By doing this, am I basically allowing myself to be taken advantage of in the long run?

I pride myself in being able to remove myself from any situations I feel are likely to harm me. For example, if they ever slept with anybody else, I would not be able to overlook this and would leave.

Should I continue to be this easy going? Or is it better for me to adopt a more ruthless, judgmental stance?

The expansion of labels has been tough for me to get behind, for sure, because I don't really understand its full goals.

My best understanding of the positive side of labels is a recognition of culture, but it seems more like it's being used as a tool of stereotyping and exclusion through acceptance inflation.

Its good to be understanding and forgiving. Not everyone will appreciate this though. There WILL be people who take advantage of this. In that case I would do as you do, remove yourself from the situation before you are harmed.

In my relationship, we have both done things to offend each other. We have argued, but the arguments never went anywhere. Only when we both calm down, sit together in person and see each other as people who make mistakes, we are able to make progress. one of the main reasons I value my boyfriend as a partner is that he always listens to me, even when I screw up. I do the same for him. You don't have to be ruthless to get what you want. You can be kind too. One thing that is important is that if you think you are right and she is wrong, say so. Don't just let her have her way in order to not hurt her, that is babying her and you will eventually become resentful for all the times you have sacrificed what you want. Find compromise so that both of you can walk away happy.
