Why do I feel like I will get punished for enjoying my life?

I want to go out and make friends, do something fun, both day and night life things, but I'm so afraid, and feel like something absolutely horrible will happen to me if I do go outside.

I just want to make new friends and maybe even get into a relationship with a wonderful woman or something, anything.

Unless you're a Puritan ("A Puritan is someone who lives in constant dread that somebody somewhere might be having fun"), you are using your fear of divine or karmic retribution as an excuse for your own fear of trying.

It's sour grapes in advance - If you're afraid that you might not actually enjoy a social life, or that you might not be able to pull it off, it is easier not to even make the first step, and what better way to convince yourself not to make the first step than to tell yourself you'll be punished if you do?

You have to get up the courage to risk the punishment in order to discover that it won't come.

I'm not OP but I too feel like his however I'm not overly religious. I believe in a God and karma but I don't believe I'll be punished for having fun. It a almost like I don't deserve fun in my own mind or something like that. Or that I'm wrong for having fun and I should be getting my life together instead.

Just-World Fallacy, or "Good Things Happen To Good People." For whatever reason, you don't think of yourself as a good, deserving person, therefore something bad MUST happen to take them away from you - and if it does, it only "proves" that you really are a bad person and don't deserve happiness, cementing the original belief further.

It's a real catch-22 and a common problem. Now that you understand it, you can start piecing together how to get past it.

I sort of understand where you're coming from. I get nervous when I start enjoying myself or good things start happening, because they almost always bite me in the ass or something equally bad happens afterwards. You just deal with it.
