I am American. I had a high school French teacher who is from rural France. A friend of mine wants to visit Paris. Is it appropriate of me to ask him for tourist attraction recommendations, interesting things to do in Paris and ways to avoid being ripped of as a tourist?
Paris c'est nul y'a rien à faire là bas
As long as you're wearing pants, there's nothing inappropriate about asking for tips.

why would it be inappropriate?

How long have you been out of high school? Have you kept in any kind of contact, or are you just tracking them down on FB and messaging them completely out of the blue?
If you've only been out of school for 3-4 years, and you already have them on FB, or have spoken to them once or twice since you graduated, there's nothing inappropriate about it.

We have kept in touch. We email each other once every couple of weeks. I left high school three years ago

Well my friend didn't mention anything about asking others for travel tips

>We email each other once every couple of weeks.
Lol then there's nothing wrong with it. What do you guys even talk about?
Oh, you're worried about whether it's going to offend your friend? I don't think they'd mind, and if they do they're retarded.

Keep each other updated about what is going on in our lives. Like I told him I joined a competition a while ago and other stuff like that. I mean, it is not exactly frequent. Like we send a reply to an email from the other person after 3-4 weeks

N'importe quoi ! Suffit juste de pas y être seul

I'm a local in Paris, I'd be glad to help some Americans have a great time in here. Are you interested ? I'm a 19 y.o dude and I know most of the good spots.
