would a true friend allow you to stray from the path of self improvement?

It shouldn't be your friend's job to keep you on the self-improvement path. You're putting them in an awkward position by having to constantly be watching over you to make sure you're living life correctly. A true friend will try to point you in the right direction but they will not intervene so completely in your life that they're micromanaging it for you.
I have no idea what a true friend is because i've put in 0 effort for friends which is why i only have ppl im "friends" with but no actual friends. I assume a "real friend" is someone who is good to you and will be there for you.

i should've made note that i was not referring to myself or anyone else.
what i meant was, would a friend allow another to follow their dreams, even if it meant they would become a reprehensible person, or would they try to steer them from that path with gentle criticism? personally, i think friendship should be beneficial to the growth of both persons.
