I am a student taking a summer course in France right now. Before I came here, I was expecting to stay with a host family who will show you around town based on my previous experiences. My current host family is not into showing us around town. The food they cook for us tend to be the ones easiest to prepare and I cannot help but think that living with this French family does notbreslly allow me to gain an insight into French culture.

I was hoping to learn more about French culture and I don't think will happen by staying with this host family. This host family accepts a lot of kids from around the world at one time and I can't help but notice how people tend to befriend other people who speak the same language as them. Everyone is fluent in different languages. This disappoints me as I was hoping to befriend everyone not where as soon as I speak one language someone will always be excluded.
How to feel better about this?

Ask the bus fare. Take the bus into town. Wander around. Use wikitravel. Learn about the area over the Internet and see the sights based on what you canfindonline. Check out the train station.
The thing about most places in Europe is that everything is so accessible by public transit that you can get anywhere. See if you can get anyRick Steeves books, and check your wikitravel. If they aren't going to to show you, just ask them what bus fare is and head out. Yourself. I spent 4 years in Germany. It's super easy once you give it a shot.

You mention an "us". If there are others in your group, go out as a group and do your sightseeing yourselves. Meet French kids your age. Get all your cultural enrichment through them and their families.

I don't know how to meet French kids out age. At bars? I think it is better to make friends when sober.

Where in France? You can find people online. Even on 4chan or /soc/. Or meetup. Or even Tinder.

We are a group of girls and I think this will be a bit too risky for us
Should I just befriend the kids staying at our host family's place instead? The problem is that everyone is fluent in a different language so all of us cannot us "chat" together.

>risky

How? You're in France. It's likely safer than where most of you are from.
