Thinking about enlisting in the military, probably the navy, rather than going to college and working some boring-ass job.
Anybody with experience? Stories, advice, etc.
I'm pretty skinny but I'd work out before entering.
Bonus points for navy

Leaving for the army in a month. Join the army. Unless you like cramped spaces in the middle of the ocean

I have bad news for you, OP. The military pays shit at the lower ranks. And in order to rank up passed E-3 you'll need to be better trained and more knowledgable than others at your rank. Which means studying. And the military is like many other jobs. Fun sometimes, boring most of the time. With that said, it's a great experience, just know what you're getting into.
The military is for 3 kinds of people
1. Southerners/poor people duped into pride because their poor forefathers found signing up the only way to survive; plus it came with pride nonsense
2. People trying to get their shit together, usually by way of someone pushing them.
3. People wanting access to higher education or technological courses that would otherwise have a hard financial time acquiring.
I have never been in the military, but loads of my family have:
Older brother - Navy
Older sister Navy
Younger brother - Army
Adoptive father - Marines
Older adoptive brother - Army Bootcamp (offenses, not for military)

Navy here
I'm currently in an 'A' school but so far, it ain't bad. I have no experience in the actual fleet yet, but I can say I haven't regretted my decision. You get paid pretty decent (They pay for your food and barracks, really you only need to spend on housekeeping/self-care supplies). If you play your cards right, you can say a lot of money. I'm already have $3k saved up within 6 months of being here (I coulda done better but eh). Take every advantage you can get. For example: My mom never took me to a dentist since I was 7 and I barely brushed my teeth until like 4 years ago (yeah, disgusting, but whatever) but the dental clinic fixed me up pretty fucking good for free. They must have already put like $3,000 into me.
Also, if you do join the navy, pick a rate that you would like (if available) because if the navy picks for you, you're not gonna like it. Remember, you will be doing this job for the next 4 years.
I'm an E-1, Got an easyj ob and dorm. This shit rocks! Whatever you do, DO NOT join the army or marines. Unless you want to be a badass, don't delude yourself into being a puppet of death for a bunch of fat political cunts.
