Sup /adv/? When do you think it's time to get a new phone? Is it because of an upgrade or do what I do...wait until that shit is literally useless and go get a new one. My friend sucks Apple's dick and gets a new iPhone when the new one drops and I'm like...dude this phone has at least a few more years on it until it's useless. Thoughts?
your friend can spend his money however he wants.
i generally wait till my phone runs into an issue that i cannot fix on my own because i'm a poorfag.
also, do upgrades even exist anymore? pretty sure wireless telecommunications companies have gone the rent-a-phone route.

I've got a stupidphone so basic that it doesn't even have a camera, and it works fine for me. I can talk to people and they can talk to me. All the rest is filagree.
The right time is when you a) feel like it, b) can.
I wouldn't mind others' opinions if your phone serves your needs.
I tend to go for a cutting-edge phone at the time, but buy it smartly so it's about a third of the price. Something professional looking and sleek, not an iPhone. Then I top it up by about $20 a year. It lasts for 4-5 years at least. I wont upgrade my phone unless it's to something much faster, or lighter, features that mean more than an extra speaker.
I've had my current one for over 4 years. I've checked the market for an upgrade, but it's still worth as much as I paid before (just on the high street market not the trader market now) and it's still decent.
Basically... some people spend $4,000 on phone and contracts.. I fly the world and rent nice places instead.
