I've just noticed what I think is a small wart on my thumb.
Should I just go to a doctor and get it frozen off? Or are there any over-the-counter treatments that are actually effective?
I see they are options for salicylic acid or freezing treatments which are a bit more expensive.

Check out Duck tape .. Small bit on the wart. Wait months and it withers/falls off on it's own.

I'd rather not. The right treatment should be able to have it gone in days or weeks

The duct tape tape trick has worked for me in the past

Freezing them off is fast, but can leave a mark.

The OTC ointments/solutions do work, but can take a week or more.

I have recurring verrucas that I treat with otc freezing. The box says don't apply for longer than 45 seconds, I usually go for about 1.5 mins. I repeat this every ~4 days until I see it dying and then leave it to wear away. I had a doctor freeze the same verruca 3 times without getting rid of it, each at 2.5x the cost of the otc treatment
