do you think objectifying or sexualizing women in the media is a big deal
>>
It's basically the reason so much is so fucking fucked. This board would mostly be questions about how to maintain vegetable gardens, written by people in healthy relationships, if it wasn't for sportscar magazines with hot girls on the cover.

There are plenty of places on the Internet where you can find that. You can always look up home and garden forums if that's more your speed.

Think about where you are and the demographics for a moment.

>Here's hoping you were being sarcastic, and I couldn't tell

Probably since most people are outrageously easy to influence so 99.99999999% of women are insecure about how they look and 99.99999999% of men are insecure about getting laid.
>>
>>17304679
Nope. Fine by me.
>>
>>17304679
In general, no.. I don't really give a fuck. But if you're talking about children's media, then yes.
>>
>>17304679

on sexualization?

no. and not for the stupid reasons, but because men are sexualized as much as women. i was talking about this to my friend the other day. men arent presented as a male power fantasy, they are presented as sexy. i never watched a super hero movie and thought 'WOW CAPTAIN AMERICA IS SO POWERFUL'. i thought 'WOW CAPTAIN AMERICA IS SO FUCKING HOT'

they made him actually try to pull in a helicopter to show off his muscles. yes there is power. but theres also sex. just like with women. buffy was seen as a power fantasy, still the sexiest fucking slayer you could ask for.

women wont admit it cuz they're biased. men wont admit it cuz they're not into dudes.

but ask any gay guy and tehy can say men are 100% sexualized in media.

as for objectifying, its a case by case scenario. most movies 'objectify' characters. not just women but anyone who is a supporting or sattelite character designed to feed into the protagonist.

yes and no, a healthy relationship is a 2 way street, so whilst i accept a decent number of threads are "hod do i get a GF" or somthing similar, there is also threads about "i cheated on my boyfriend" or "im in love with his friend, how do i tell him?" stuff aswell. The point being that women also post here too and the problems listed on this board at any given time are far from being confined to "i want this bootay, how do i get this bootay?".
>>
>>17304679
yes, it makes women annoyingly insecure. plus, we would probably care about sex alot less and their would be less pride in it, and we would concentrate on more meaningful things. think of cultures where this didnt happen.
>>
>>17304679
No because everyone does it. Especially targeted towards kids. In kids shows( my little brother watches in living room so I see) sloots on Victorious. Then I remember Hannah Montana or Lizzie mgwire. Also I'm popular stuff like avengers, women are always sexy. Least attractive marvel character is gwyneth paltrow tbqh. It sucks when its targeted as kids, but nothing I can do. And its shoved in our faces in news, movies, YouTube videos and now instagram or twitter. How many instagram whores are out there saying things like "love working out in my new @nike hypervenoms".
>>
>>17304679
The media is literally everywhere, and it'll influence you even if you think it won't (reverse psychology, subliminal advertising).

Objectifying and Sexualizing women can be used for profit (i.e buy this to look sexy, or buy this to get laid), so yes.

None of this matters though, there's nothing to be done about it.

>How many instagram whores are out there saying things like "love working out in my new @nike hypervenoms".
yeah but isint all the shit like this caused by our culture?
>>
>>17304749
When they get paid and get 'fame' and attention from people they like, womyn are ok with it. When they get hit on in bars or whistled in the street, they scream rape.
>>
The only problem I have with it is that men aren't nearly sexualized in the media enough. I think if we had more of that, things would even out a lot more. Other than that, what's the issue? Consenting adults chose to be photographed, young men wax their carrots, everyone goes on living their depressing lives. Sounds good to me. If someone is legitimately happy with their life being photographed doing sexual poses, who am I to tell them they should feel ashamed for themselves? This seems like a way of pushing the blame on an easy target instead of confronting the real issue. The issue is that we have a culture of people who are sexually, politically, and emotionally immature. Things like "sexualization in the media" are a symptom of that, not a cause.
>>
>>17304758
dont get me wrong. im not trying to defend women. im just making a point that all this retarded shit is because of our culture.
>>
>>17304766
with men its not as frequent but its alot worse when they are. with men the glamorised image is for them to be really big and ripped which is nearly impossible to get unless you do steroids or commit your entire lifes routine to working out/dieting. for women, the glamorized image is for them to be skinny, and we know men will still fuck women even if they are a bit fat.
>>

Adding on to this

The standard for women is much lower than the one set for men. Hell even the chubby girls get to be shown as sex symbols.

Name one chubby man that has been presented in the media as sexy or a sex symbol.

>>17304679
I honestly don't see it as a big deal. Yes it will influence impressionable people. But anyone with a brain knows that beneath that sexy exterior is usually a person who suffers from some flaws.
>>
>>17304711
that is true, but i think advice is more personal and vegetable questions is best suited in another category
>>
>>17304739
totally agree!
>>
>>17304743
exactly, girls dont understand that guys wont want to marry them if they look like every other girl, theyll just go out with them for sex
>>
>>17304766
yeah but dont you think its out of insecurity? because thats what the media demands?

and the rest of posters ITT are thinking way too superficially about this.

I was only making gardening an example, because that's (somewhat) something we have in common with Neolithic humans still - people who didn't live in dominator cultures, but rather partnership cultures.

The dominator mindset is what allows for sexualisation to influence us. It's what causes people who think they've figured out the game to talk about focusing on "more important things." The truth is that sexuality is important, our genitals represent our creative force, it's just used wrong. I'm no NoFapper, but I know there's a truth to the (tantric) argument that we spend our sexual energy for quick releases, instead of building it up for it to be used to influence change according to will.
The result of this is that people are just specks of their potential godly selves, and most people will never wake up. I know 4chan doesn't represent all of humanity, but it is a symptom of how out of control we as a society are. Most of our problems are stupid, because we've been made stupid by the oppressing forces - and one of their most powerful tools is sexualised media. It keeps our eyes off the ball and makes us miserable at the same time.

And there is indeed something we can do about it - Just switch off. Stop looking at porn, turn off ads, look away. Recognise out brothers and sisters as the divine creatures they in fact are.

Not even joking.
