I want to go into Mathematics coming from a computer programming background but my parents are resisting my idea based off their experience with mathematics and pushing that on me,should I even listen to them?

I can't really say, all I know is that I'm studying what my parents want and not what I want and I've had a bunch of suicide attempts on my way to college after 4 years of studying this.
