It usually gets better if I also use my tongue but its still far away from being even tolerable.
It's not about losing your accent. Think of it as picking up an "American" accent. Keep in mind there are different accents in America.

You make it seem like there's an objectively "right" American accent.
If you live in America, go outside more. If not, consume more American media in the accent you like.
