I'm from the UK and my dad wants me to transfer to america for university this september, but i just finished community college and was thinking of taking a year off to gain work experience since i'm 20 and never had a job, i also want to work on my confidence a bit before going to uni and pay off my current £6k debt. But my dad is extremely adamant about me going to university now, should i go?

Is he paging for it? Uni is LUDICROUSLY expensive here compared to the UK, and we don't have the same financing scheme where you can turn the debt into a payroll tax.

You can point out that in the UK - in fact almost everywhere but the US - a "gap year" before uni is the norm. Some people use it to work, travel, volunteer or take intro courses - all of which are defensible as productive uses of a year.
