How can I be less embarrassed at summer day camp? I am a first-year counselor almost done with my first week and I still can't bring myself to be silly and goofy and all that stuff unless one of my other staff members starts it off. I'm also fairly socially awkward around the kids.

My supervisor has tried to encourage me, but it still isn't happening and I worry I'll be branded a lost cause sometime soon. At this point I'd say I'm clearly in the wrong line of work, but it's late enough into the season I want to at least make through this summer without being fired.

What can I do? Even the other first year counselors are "counselor-ing" circles around me.

Hey! I just started my second week as a day camp counselor and I'm not very good at it either. One piece of advice that one of the more experienced counselors gave me that I thought was interesting but haven't quite made a practice of is "If you don't feel stupid, you're not doing it right." It's supposed to be embarrassing.
