My period is a metabolic nightmare. My appetite explodes but I'm too nauseous to eat, all the while pooping 5-6 times in a day, followed by very bad diarrhoea. My stomach hurts pretty bad as well and I wonder if it's from the painkiller I take. What do? Should I see my GP for this or a dietician? Would hormonal birth control help in the long term?
>>
Go see a fucking doctor.
>>
>>17238675
A doctor would just give me more meds or tell me to get over it because mensies
>>
You should consult your gyno before trying to make sense of it online. Keep close track of your symptoms and what you take for pain, as well as your schedule and present it to her. If you've never been on BC it might be the answer but there could also be something else going on. You don't have to live like that.

Go to see a different doctor
>>
>>17238674
Medfag here

We'd usually recommend just sticking a Mirena up there
>>
>>17238680
Have you seen a gynecologist? Your GP isn't really the go-to for menstrual issues.
>>
>>17238693
>Your GP isn't really the go-to for menstrual issues
For this they are

You don't take up a consultant gynecologist's time for this
>>
>>17238698
Unless it's not solved with all the straightforward tranexamic acid, naproxen, Mirena etc
>>
>>17238698
She's having a very irregular and painful period that's effecting her life. The stomach pain and nausea could be from cramps or it could be from another more serious issue, and the pain medication isn't solving it.
>>
>>17238726
Where did she say they were irregular?

Pain medication doesn't solve my gf's or sister's period pains either... And they're not even that bad

Could be from a serious issue? Sure. So could the lymph node I feel in my neck. I'm not running to the GP shouting 'Hodgkin's!!'
>>
>>17238726
Should the pain medication solve the nausea? I thought the pain medication was causing the stomach pain?

A trip to the gynaecologist could be a good idea, although I don't like hormonal birth control and like to keep things as natural as possible.
>>
>>17238734
Pain meds so not solve nausea. Anti-emetics, which you can't buy, do

Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs can cause stomach pain, but that's a rather serious issue indicated an ulcer. That pain wouldn't come in cycles

The Mirena has a hormone but only acts in the uterus, and not around the body

>the medfag, not that poster
>>
>>17238731
A lot of GPs don't do pelvic exams or prescribe birth control, both of which are the starting point for understanding what could be happening with her cycle. It's a highly recommended routine for women to be visiting their gynecologist once a year for exams.
>>
>>17238674
Assuming you are 20, you'll have periods for about 25 years at most, so you must calculate, if you have it 5 days a month, 12 times a year, 25 years, you have to take the dose of painkiller for all those days in one sitting and you'll never suffer pain again

Or become anorexic and stop having menstruation, easy
>>
>>17238753
What sort of third world country do you live in? Are you a doctor?
All GPs are qualified to do pelvic exams and prescribe birth control

Seeing a consultant gynecologist once a year as a routine is ridiculous
>>
>>17238734
The nausea could be associated with the pain medicine or the stomach pains. Does it really hurt in your stomach, or lower around your uterus? Visiting the gynecologist is a very common and regular event for women, I'm not sure why the poster in this thread is getting so riled about it.
>>
>>17238758
Why don't men see a urologist once a year?

Why don't all <18 year olds see a pediatrician once a year?

>Hey Doc, I felt my heartbeating fast once
Yeah sure, you can see the cardiologist once a year, every year
>>
>>17238758
OP here. Visiting the gynaecologist routinely and having that terrifying exam where they feel you all over inside has been proven pointless in the medical world as it doesn't help the patient prevent any real diseases. Girls have been felt up for years for nothing. That's why I've never seen a gynaecologist in my life yet. I'm 22.
>>
>>17238745
Thanks, that's really helpful advice! I'm considering the Mirena.

I have another symptom question. I get stabbing pains in my rectum. They used to get very bad where I wouldn't be able to move for a few seconds. What the hell is up with that? I think it could be related to tampon use but it has lessened with time.
>>
>>17238777
>That's why I've never seen a gynaecologist in my life yet. I'm 22
And can I just reassure you that's completely normal

What you are experiencing can be dealt with by your GP (very likely without pelvic examination, but that'll depend on history)

Just tell them you'd rather try the non-hormonal options first. And perhaps read about the Mirena which would very likely solve your issue completely and fairly quickly
>>
>>17238785
Proctalgia fugax

Sometimes anxiety related. Sometimes not. I've had them myself haha

Nothing serious or anything to worry about, despite the Latin name slapped on to it
>>
>>17238786
Wouldn't it be better to have a gynaecologist place the Mirena because of their specialisation? Or does it not matter?
>>
Can I just hijack this period thread for one moment (sorry OP!), as I'm pretty sure the guys of /adv/ don't want several threads about periods.

I'm on the mini pill (the one where you don't have a break) and I'm three days late for my period. I'm getting all the symptoms, the cramps, swollen boobs, ridiculously horny all the time, etc, but no actual bleeding yet.

My last period was a really weird light one which went heavy at the end which was a bit different and I'm usually regular as clockwork.

Could it just be pill related? I've been taking it for six months now.
>>
>>17238792
Doesn't matter

GPs do need additional training, but it's such a lucrative business for GP surgeries to fit them (because otherwise they have to pay another GP to fit them), that most will have at least 1-2 GPs trained to do them

>I say lucrative - I mean around £4,000 a year

Referral to Gynae can take weeks, sometimes months (probably the latter for something so 'trivial'), which is highly inconvenient for a woman who wants pregnancy protection fast
>>
>>17238802
Likely pill related, but I'd visit your GP again for a review... Not something I can just lay out your options on here unfortunately
>>
>>17238819
Oh, and take a pregnancy test of course

The mini pill, although effective enough to be considered a contraception, is the least effective of all the hormonal options
>>
>>17238823

I'm taking a pregnancy test tomorrow but I can't really think of a time where it would have failed (illness, etc). Fingers crossed it isn't pregnancy though.

I can feel slight cramping but I don't know if that's just psychosomatic. I've done a bit of googling and it looks as though lack of periods isn't abnormal on this pill either.

Just a bit frustrating that I don't know when it's going to happen.
>>
>>17238674
>Should I see my GP for this or a dietician?
What you really need is to see a gynecologist. Start with the GP, who coordinate between the dietitian and the gyno.
>>
>>17238829
I wouldn't think of it in terms of 'times it's not effective'. You can be healthy and take the mini pill as directed and still get pregnant. It's just unlikely

Yeah, lack of periods can be normal. Indeed it can be used to treat heavy periods

Ultimately, if it's not pregnancy, it's likely just the mini pill
>>
>>17238833
>What you really need is to see a gynecologist

I give up

Good night all
>>
hello im japanise
>>
>>17238698
You forgot the part where it's the doctor's job to assist the patients. Lol. It's their fucking job. There is no waste a doctor's time. It's what they're there for

Argument invalid.
