St John Wort does fuck all, it's used to increase your mood but I used it for 2 weeks and felt no difference. I just stopped using it and still feel no different.
I probably should go to the doc to talk about actual treatment for depression but I don't want to be clinically diagnosed since I have to join the military
Your girlfriend should go to the doctor though, unless she has a reason why she can't have the diagnosis on record like me
