How can i become more quick witted? You know come up with clever responses and comebacks?

Watch The Office, or Scrubs
>>

Can watching tv shows really help with that?
>>
>>17229931
No, people who quote TV shows are "tolerated".
>>
>>17229931
The Office? Fuck no, but television can help with a more comic line of thinking. Shows like Cheers maybe. You are bound to encounter similar situations so analyze ones that have passed.
>>
>>17229934
Yeah, learn from them but repeating lines is awful, don't do it.
>>
Any chance you can join an improv group, a debate team, or a toastmasters organization? This sort of thing works like a muscle, you just need to bite the proverbial bullet and work at it
>>

So's your face.
>>
Socialise more, watch and learn from witty persons (even if they are fictional), read sage writers (Shakespeare, Conan Doyle, Twain, Dumas 4x)
Board games and acting lessons can help too.
Witty people know more because of experience than their own wits.
>>
I want to learn this too.
I think I'm already decent at banter but I want to be excellent. I think it's the key to women
>>

Just bs with somebody that is witty. I'm not the greatest example but being able to relate with pop culture or anything that person may be into makes it easy. Being cheesy with it is fine.

Winston Churchill rehearsed all his great speeches in the bath. Oscar Wilde wrote down clever things his friends said and repeated them as his own. Groucho Marx had a list of all-purpose witticisms to draw on in any situation. Bob Hope never traveled without his gag writers.

The point is that spontaneous clever wit rarely is. Make a small collection of jokes and quips for various situations, and dip into them when the opportunity arises.

I hope thats not meant as an example of quick wit
>>

These are good examples of witty people for you to study.
Spontaneous wit can be trained nonetheless.

Best advice in the thread. Seriously, it's improv and it takes practise.
>>
>>17229913
There was a BBC article that covered this. It said the wittiest purple are all good listeners. So try working on your listening skills.
>>
>>17229913
you can't. quick wit is not a skill.

honestly?
watch more tv, read more books, and hang out in social settings
having references and quotes at the ready makes someone seem more witty than they actually are
>>
Watch Sherlock and House MD
Talk to people smarter than you

Your mother

It takes practice usually. Don't be afraid to make a few unremarkable jokes when getting into the swing of it. You're (more than likely) not getting paid for it so don't stress it too much.
>>
>>17229913
Practice. I would recommend friendly banter with bros. My and my friends used to shit on each other since highschool and developed pretty good verbal reflexes. If you have girl friend who can and will tolerate it then even better, practice on both genders. But never do it in public.

Read more books for exposure to more things. There more you know, the more you have read, the more you have seen, the more you have experienced...it all forms the pool from which you can draw when you need to say something.
