I have a very strong ADHD.
Is it possible for me to study?
I wish I could join college, but I can't spend 5 minutes reading a biology book without day dreaming for half a hour.
Profissional help is out of question, I don't have any money or anyone that could lend a hand.

It's possible to go to college and be successful with extreme executive dysfunction: i'm doing it right now (long story, involving narcolepsy, depression, adhd, anxiety, and lots of medication).

But if you don't have any money then you can't afford it. Even in a country with free tuition.

How exactly did you cope with your problems?
I live in a country with free and good colleges, so paying for the college itself is not an issue.

Being smart, tons of pills, writing everything down, and generally working like a maniac (all day and all night). No free time, ever, and no breaks, no vidya, no nothing. Just work.

Most people also rely massively on others (though i don't, i don't have anyone to ask for help and simply rely on myself: been doing this since i was a little kid so im used to it).

If you can't pay for basic necessities like medical care, where are you going to live? What are you going to eat? How are you going to buy textbooks? etc?

Do you think you'd have made it without the pills?
For how long did you study?

No since i'm a goddamn narcoleptic (ie i have to take pills to be awake, otherwise i'm just asleep all day and can't do anything).
Also have to take adrenal blockers as ghetto muscle relaxants (for other shit), will likely have to switch that to proper carbamazepine and tizanidine soon since it's getting a bit worse lately. Would probably make it without these, but with extreme difficulty (eg i wasn't able to sleep last night, waking up screaming in pain is not fun and makes you HATE sleep).
And that's not to mention the fucking treatment-resistant depression, which i'm not taking any pills for right now because none of them work. Don't want to start a new regimen right before finals but afterwards i'll likely be starting with venlafaxine, mirtazapine, and an adjunct. Necessary because the memory deficit is getting worse and worse (untreated bad depression does that, reduces LTP in hippocampus) and if it goes on I won't be able to remember the name of the university i'm at, much less my class dates and times.

And i'm still in school. Medical school in particular, so not easy shit. More years to go, which means more workaholism and more pills. But we keep going however we can.

Does your college have some sort of physical/mental health center? It should. If you don't know, find out. If it does, make use of it.

Interesting.
How did you get the pills?
What did you have to say to your doctor?
Let's pretend that one day I'll be in a financial condition to pay for a doctor and the pills, that is.

Complex story at first since like most narcoleptics i went on a bit of an idiotic medical saga to start with (involved incompetent psychiatrists and various idiotic prescription decisions, ended up in ER with NMS at one point).
Eventually one of the docs had enough functioning brain cells to send me to a sleep specialist, i did the overnight sleep study (PSG + MSLT) and got diagnosed with narcolepsy on the spot and prescribed the medication (it's really damn obvious on the test results).

Other meds have been prescribed by various doctors. Eg baclofen by neurologist for spasticity, escitalopram by psychiatrist for depression, etc.
You just go to the appropriate doctor, tell them what's wrong, and they try to help.
Don't go in thinking "i want to get some speed pills so i can go fast like sonic", that's called "drug-seeking behavior".

And what kind of country are you in where you have public higher education, but not medical care?

I mean, there is public medicare, but it's utter complete shit, while the universities are fairly good. The one I'm trying to join is the 2nd best in Latin America.
