Is it weird to find the contact info of someone that works in a certain industry and straight up ask for a job/send in a resume?

Not really, but if possible go through the proper channels (start at the bottom/front of house and find out who handles hiring).

It is not weird at all, but do what >>17213339 says. Don't just send it to anyone in the industry, make sure it's someone who works in HR. It's got a pretty low success rate, because the company you're contacting won't necessarily be hiring anyone at that time, but it's certainly worth a shot.

What about asking what their company does and the experience you'd need to land a position there?

Well, ok, you need to do some basic research first. You have access to the internet; if you call up the HR person and ask "what does your company do?" what the fuck do you think his/her response will be? No one wants to hire an idiot.

That's the way you're supposed to do it.
