Whenever I smoke weed, I feel very, very intense emotions. I am not in a good place in my life / emotional development. So when I smoke, I become overwhelmed with negative emotions.
This sucks. I am already struggling sober. I see people running from their problems by doing drugs; and then I try to escape like them and I get hit in the head with my problems magnified x1000.

This is the case for a lot of people with drugs (including alcohol). Eventually you learn that the negative effects aren't worth it.

People have different reactions to drugs, it's like gambling with your body chemistry. Some people can take drugs often and enjoy a good life with few after effects, some other people can take drug once and feel violently ill. Hence, some people have positive experiences and some people don't enjoy it. Like you noticed this can be a problem if you use drugs as your main source of escapism during a bad time in your place. I'm sure you've already been told to seek help/therapy with your personal problems so let's tackle the remaining issue. If drugs aren't working out for you as a mean of escapism then perhaps you could try some other hobby.
