My bf has always taken his religion seriously and personally. He never attempts to convert anyone. And religion is mostly how he connects with his family. He doesn't talk about it much either, and life just goes on.
So, I do attend religious events with his family to be supportive of him and his family. But I'm not gagging at the sight of a church and complaining the whole time.
The main thing you should have is tolerance. Religion has never been an issue between my boyfriend and I. We talk about it occasionally, but it never gets in the way of our actual relationship.
Only issue I could see ever happening is I'd have to go to Catholic school to get married to him. Which really doesn't unsettle me at all.

I can think of two important issues that his religion may affect. Premarital sex and abortion. If he is against sex before marriage and you are not then you may have a problem, and assuming you are female, if you get pregnant and wish to have an abortion then he may be against abortions. You should at least discuss these two sensitive issues before planning any relationship in the future.
