How do you kill time while having your life indefinitely on hold over matters you have no real power over?

I can't date, I can't really travel, I have a shitty 3-shift job I go every day that keeps me from doing regular hobbies/socialising. All I need to do is to remain calm, not lose my shit and not kill myself, and it's getting hard.

>i cant date

why?

>3shift job i go to every day
>need to kill time

what?

more context about your situation would be nice

read classic books
shit that you shouldve read in high school or college to culture you to the level of the average (pseudo)-intellectual
either that or become an amateur film buff and watch all the great films of the last 50 years and make it a ritual to go to the cinema once a week

My condition drops me so low on dating ranks that I literally could not stomach settling for someone who'd settle for me. I'm not worth anyone worth dating, so there is no point to bother.

I work 8 hours per day. Sometimes it's from 6 am to 2 pm, from 2 pm to 10 pm, or 10 pm to 6 am. save for sometimes humbly requesting having some specific day in particular free, I have no power to decide which shift I am assigned to.

Other than that, I sleep for eight hours.

That still leaves me with eight hours of time to sit still and truly realise that life is passing me by and that there is nothing I can do about it.

Also, having anxiety about it makes it worse.
>>
>>17193100

>condition

what condition? i dont intend to argue the point as ive been there before (albeit temporarily) but what is your condition?

>i work 8 hours a day

most people do. your schedules a bit more random than usual, but its normal to have 8 hour shifts. you can still have hobbies and socialize. how far in advance do you know your schedule?

>i also sleep 8 hours

so does everyone else. but thats just 16 hours of the day. even if you give 4 to travel and food and showering and such, you still got a good four hours to socialize or do hobbies.

why do you isnist you cant do hobbies or socialize yet have 8 hours a day to burn? i mean i know all those 8 hours arent really just sitting around, life takes time to organize, but everyone else manages to do it why cant you?
>>
>>17193116
Name me a decent constructive hobby you can do at 3 AM in a house full of sleeping people and have nobody have a problem with it.
>>
>>17193100
>I'm not worth
stop right there, thats a huge part of your problem
self esteem is humongous part of happiness and attractiveness
i have pal whos chubby manlet slob with IBS, general anxiety and depression and he's marrying a solid 10/10 because he is an unapologetic dick with a dry sense of humor
>>
>>17193135
I'm a fucking tranny and I can't stand touching dick.
>>
>>17193133

do you have a private room? as in, its okay to use a computer screen?

i will adhere to your rule once you clarify, but i would also like to note that even you said your shifts are random, so even if there was nothing to do at 3am, you can do your hobbies on days where your shifts dont require you to be up at 3am.

also, condition?

fucking reading books
>vocabulary boost
>insight boost

>>17193161
I'm a tranny, and permanently stuck in the waiting lines to maybe be considered into being given the diagnosis and a green light in the vague indefinite future. Not having a body I could call my own does kind of hamper my chances to live a normal pleasant life.

I have a room with a lock and paper thin walls. I can use a computer or keep a light on, but my cohabitants will complain about me being awake at night.

>>17193164
I'm reading Pride and Prejudice right now and don't feel any smarter.

What books make you smart, instead of just alienating you completely from whatever peers you could otherwise hope to have?
>>
>>17193178
If you expect to read one book and become smarter then just drop reading altogether.
>>
>>17193192
I've read many, many books in my life and I'm still this stupid.
>>
>>17193178
jane austen is garbage, i recommend you read stuff from the 20th century. authors such as upton sinclair, george orwell, aldous huxley, john steinman, ralph ellison. tim o brian and kurt vonnegut
i recommend books that are allegorical to real world issues and events because you actually learn about the world in addition to getting some yummy lit entertainment.
>jane fucking austen ranting for 5 pages over a gentlemans fucking handwriting
>>
>>17193178

>im a tranny

fair enough. its a mixed bag and you'll deal with that the way you can so i can udnerstand why you arent looking to date or feel you are unable to at this time of your life.

that being said, as long as you have headphones and a computer you can do a lot.

can you draw? like at all? you dont have to be that good to make a comic book. or even an animation.

you can also find shows you like and make music videos from them. or do what i do and cut out episodes of sailor moon frame by frame to create entirely new sequences:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssiOythzuwA

or you can learn to create music using your computer. or you can get into photoshop. or you can get into 3d animation. or you can get into making a video game.

if your roommmates complain abotu how loudly youare typing, they can go fuck themselves.

the world isn't divided between 'smart' and 'dumb'.

if you are well read, retain the information, and can explain the actual implications outside of the plot itself, then you learn. you dont even ened to 'catch it' yourself. consider taking an online course or just going to sparknotes and reading up background information and analysis of the books you read.

as you go on you tend to pick up these things more.

if you aspire to hang with intellectuals (which you should, i feel they are the most open minded) books from academic literary canon are the best because they are commonly read and provide great discussion and banter material also be read up on current events that really helps put your world in perspective and is conversation material. if a person isnt somewhat well-read and doesnt keep up with current events deduct a couple point from their value as friends

I'm actually fascinated by just how freaking bland this writing style is. There is no edge to it, no texture, scent or colour. It's like ADVANCED blandness.

Are all books that are good for you painfully heavy and depressing? I've read Animal Farm and started Farenheit 451 once. I gave up when I just could not wrap my mind around what the author was trying to describe on a page (I think the protagonist's wife was in some breathing apparatus?). The text was just too hard.

>>17193210
I'd love to date. I know you're not supposed to think like that but I can't help but feel that having a real, decent boyfriend would make me happy. Or at least make life tolerable in so many ways that it is not.

I try to write, and I draw sometimes, but I can't create anything when I'm stressed and I am always stressed because my life is draining to waste and there is nothing I can do about it.
>>
>>17193244
i really liked animal farm
it was morbid in a bad ass way
Two legs bad! two legs bad!

not all "good for you" are heavy and depressing i suggest the book "freakonomics" for a more light hearted read.

it might be your approach to it that makes it seem difficult to understand. read slow and and dont be afraid to use the internet to look up meanings of passages when youre lost.
>>
>>17193256
I suppose.

Is any/all nonfiction good? I try to pick up a book about subjects I know nothing about every once in a while, but don't really know how to evaluate that.

Nor whether knowing a thing or two about castration puns in medieval plays really does contribute that much to my education.
>>
>>17193244

its okay to want to date, btu thinking having a boyfriend will make you happy is how you get a long life of sadness.

>im too stressed to do anything
>but i dont want to do nothing

then just get a netflix account and binge watch everything you can
>>
>>17193268
i find it uninteresting unless its documentation of strange or crazy things that happened in real life.
>>
>>17193281
Watching netflix doesn't count as doing anything.

I want to have an interesting and exiting life and knowing I am chained to this country for years and years again under tight scrutiny of people who want me to fail makes it very challenging. I am all out of ideas.
>>
>>17193310

then you didnt come here to get advice, you came here to whine. go to /lgbt/ for that.

you are saying you are too stressed to do anything but sit around and do nothing, yet you insist you wont sit aorund and do nothing, but despite only 1/3 of your shifts keeping you up so late you also cant do anything because of that one specific shift.

you dont want advice, cuz you say 'I COULDNT DO THAT' for trivial non existent reasons.

so good luck in life.
>>
>>17193363
I got books, but I already knew that.

I'm sorry I thought you had advice on relieving the stress.
>>
>>17193363
Also, the issue with the shifts is that I couldn't take up some regular once-per-week hobby.

No point in signing up to a spinning class if there's a 60% chance that I'll always be either working or asleep when it happens.
