My computer fan has all of a sudden intermittently started being much louder. It gets rather annoying and I was wondering what can cause this and is it a matter of concern?
Sometimes just smacking my computer makes it stop. What's going on and how do I fix it? Should I smack it harder?
It's overheating, make the room cooler or clean out the case and make sure no dust is in there.

Why does smacking it make it stop sometimes?
Most likely a bearing about to break, or oscillation in the rotor itself. Common with cheap rotary parts (especially fans). No problem right now, but it will most likely die eventually. I recommend replacing it, but it'll probably last a lot longer. Could be a year, could be a day.
If it's just spinning faster you need to clean the inside of your PC, maybe change the thermal paste (not recommended unless you're experienced). If scratching you need a new fan.

Dust stuck in the airflow results in the CPU getting more heat results in increasing rpm to reduce said heat.
clean it you slob. you a vaccum clear but make sure not to spin the fan via airflow of the clear, it will fuck up the bearing and make it even more noisier. block it with a screwdriver.

Dust. Open it up and clean out the dust, especially on the fan.
