While I wouldn't say no harm can come I will admit there is safety in numbers. When people are engaged in something with others at a pub they stay longer which means they spend more.

I admit I don't think I'd like being taken advantage of but I do feel that, if I'm at a bar/iBuy a lady a drink/she happens to be kept that I'm not being tricked or wasting money.
